Press Release 3-2-22
Forums set for Grandview irrigation & turf discussion
With the Arizona Department of Water Resources having finalized water restrictions for golf courses in its Fifth Management Plan, the Recreation Centers of Sun City West will be hosting three public forums to discuss plans for the Grandview Golf Course.
Residents are invited to attend one or both of the spring sessions: from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 21, or Wednesday, March 23, in the R.H. Johnson Lecture Hall (note the location change). The material covered will be the same in both sessions, and there will be time for questions and answers.
A third meeting has also been slated for the fall – at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, also in the Lecture Hall, for those who cannot be here for the spring meetings.
The first session, on March 21, will be recorded and broadcast after the event on the Rec Centers’ YouTube channel (youtube.com/suncitywestaz) for those who wish to view it at home. Additionally, architectural renderings for each hole can be viewed on the Rec Centers’ website at suncitywest.com/GVirrigation.
Gary Brawley, ASGCA, of Gary Brawley Golf Design, will discuss plans for turf reduction at Grandview Golf Course next year to bring the course into compliance with the Fifth Management Plan, which goes into effect in 2025. The turf reduction changes are mandated by the state conservation requirements.
RCSCW Environmental Services Manager Todd Patty will also be on hand to discuss the proposed plans and impacts to the course. The turf reduction affects an estimated 40 of Grandview’s 163 acres. This primarily includes street fronts, road crossings, and a 25-foot perimeter around the course. It will have a minimal effect on the playability of the course, and residents will continue to have golf course views along with a small area of desert landscaping.
