In an effort to be as transparent as possible, the Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board on March 18 rescinded its decision to remove Tim Hurley as president, and will instead hold a public meeting on the matter. The Board had previously met on March 12 in Executive Session.
Interim President Lisa Vines said the meeting has not yet been scheduled, but will be posted on BoardDocs (gb.suncitwest.com) at least 48 hours before the meeting occurs, in compliance with state law.
Well, that’s too bad. Who promoted the turn around???
Hello Judy. Please contact the Governing Board for any further comment.
He no doubt threatened to Sue their secret ways. I don’t know him, or what’s it’s about due to SCW SECRECY BUT THEY HAVE TO BE STOPPED JUST DOING WHAT THEY WANT LIKE FIRING THE PRESIDENT OR RAISING DUES.
Mr. Obrock, we removed one word from your comment but are posting the rest; please refrain from using such words on this platform. As to your comment about a lawsuit, we have no knowledge or indication that anyone threatened to sue anyone, as the discussions took place in closed executive session. Lastly, the president isn’t “fired” because he is not a paid employee. All officers, including the president, are volunteers. Please see Bylaw 5.06 regarding how an officer may be removed by the Board.
WHY THE U-TURN
PLEASE BE TRANSPARENT. THIS SHOWS A WEAKNESS IN THE ENTIRE BOARD!
Hello Gerry. Any further comment would have to come from the Governing Board.
I would agree. It’s difficult to in do a done
I applaud the Governing Board for rescinding what may have been a hasty decision to remove Mr. Hurley as President. Now they have the opportunity to hear all sides of the issue by inviting resident members to state their case – whether for or against, and hopefully allowing Mr. Hurley to respond. I have been a resident for 20 years and am alarmed at how our community seems to be moving toward mob rule to force decisions instead of voting people in or out.
I would love for us to return to courteous discourse. This public forum seems a very good idea.
I’m glad the board has rescinded it’s decision to remove President Hurley, which I believe was due to pressure from the failed recall committee. It is a thankless job which requires much time and effort and no matter what he does some people will always criticize him. Well done!
Well said.
And he resigned. After all that – personally I was looking forward to the open meeting where we as owner members could question both Mr. Hurley and the Board on what transpired to have the GM resign and Mr. Hurley be suspended at the same time. That does not seem to be a coincidence.
Ridiculous.
I am not sure what is going on here except that I suspect some pressure has been applied to the board members, but from whom, who knows. I do not know all the details of what transpired to make the board move to suspend Mr. Hurley as President, if only for a short time. It was my understanding that after the election, he was to return to this position. Correct me if I am wrong. It appears only the board was privy to what made them make such a move as it was done in executive session, maybe they are having regret from same, not sure. It would seem proper to allow the members a voice in this decision, but only if the board is open to providing the facts of what caused them to suspend Mr. Hurley in the first place. Although I have not been here for 20 years, I do see that the board is and has not been as transparent as they say they are. I would suggest that any move to have such a meeting be held be done only after the election has concluded.
Hello Bernd. Here is a link to the original press release on Mr. Hurley’s suspension. Any other details about that decision would have to come from the Board. Regardless of the presidency position, Mr. Hurley remains a director on the Board.
