How is social distancing any different in golf compared to lawn bowling or tennis?

There is still cross contamination of the ball in golf. With everyone’s golf ball rollIng over the noodle in the cup and even around the hole, you are coming into contact with everyone who has played the hole and obviously touched their ball. Kind of undermines the thought that you cancelled other sports such as pickleball because they share a common ball.

That makes no sense! It is still not social distancing. With sharing carts, drinks, balls, clubhouses, driving ranges, exc. 55+ are at risk!!

Everyone uses their own cart and clubs. We are not allowed to touch the flag sticks and their is no socializing in or around the pro shop. You go in scan your rec card and swipe your payment card.

I don’t think golfing is social distancing. They should be closed right now.

It’s time to reassess the SCW closures. We have now learned that the virus mainly only kills the elderly (80+ years olds) with respiratory health issues. Otherwise, for the rest of population the infection acts like any other flu virus and you get over it a short period. As President Trump says “the cure cannot be worse than the problem.” Keeping everyone cooped up in our homes, possibly getting lonely and depressed, may be worse than the problem. Let us grown up and mature adults decide if we want to take the risk of getting infected by going to the rec centers and other SCW clubs, not the government or other local leaders. Its time to get back to normal, protect the at-risk elder and other at-risk people, but let the rest of us return to our normal activities.
Amen I agree totally.. the folks that have underlying issues are not hanging out at the pool or fitness centers. And if they are shame on them. This whole thing has been completely blown out of proportion. Yes its serious, so was H1N1, and they other recent viruses. Common sense, were grown adults here. Not children, let’s us make our own decisions.

Hi Mary. This past Monday we announced that the Rec Centers’ closure will extend until May 3 with a tentative reopening date of May 4. During that time, key staff will continue to meet on a regular basis to discuss the closure date and the situation surrounding Covid-19.

For the sake of transparency, how did the Task Force come to the decision to close the 7 golf courses. What were the rationale(s) to support this decision ? Was this based on evidence-supported empirical data? In spite of “several measures’”instituted previously, was there evidence of any presence, among golfers, of Covid 19 test positives that would necessitate a change in policy at this time? By implication, if golf courses are inherently dangerous to golfers, then how can we accept a continuing risk to our course maintenance staff?
There is a persistent rumor running through the community that the decision to close was
,in part, a response to large groups of golfers gathering and imbibing, with minimal social distancing, in course parking lots. Could Mr. Schwind address this rumor? If this is true, wouldn’t a better response have been to warn the individuals to desist, rather than punishing all golfers by closure?
Authoritarian policies always begin in small measures. Do you first sanction “trespassers “ with threats to deny membership privileges, only to follow with prohibition of couples walking together, cycling suspended and soon, driving autos with windows down will
Incur a fine. Members of our community should be very wary and resistant to this dangerously slippery slope.

I should be able to use the dog park if I wear a mask. Refund 1/2 the annual fee especially if you are planning on closing everything again in the fall.
