After more than five years with the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, General Manager Bill Schwind has resigned, effective March 22.
Citing personal reasons, Schwind said he consulted with his family before making the decision to leave public administration and pursue other interests.
“I have nothing but thanks and appreciation for the wonderful opportunity that the Recreation Centers of Sun City West has provided us,” Schwind wrote. “The professional management team I have had the pleasure of working with are extremely proficient and each are experts in their fields. That being said, the Association will remain in good hands during your search and selection of my successor.”
Schwind started with the Association on Jan. 22, 2019, succeeding former General Manager Mike Whiting, who had served for 15 years. The Board conducted a national search at that time to fill the vacancy.
Plans for filling this new vacancy will be announced in the coming weeks. The Association’s Management Team will work with the Board to keep operations running smoothly in the meantime.
Hire someone that lives in SCW.
Only if they have the experience in the field of managing a community like this. I doubt if many do.
I was Fairview Park, Ohio recreation Director and have experience but no desire to run this type of secret business. It is really poorly run and supervised. Eventually the people here will realize the over expenditures are killing the town. The business is run with little public knowledge and very secretive, hopefully all above board.
Jim, we are sorry you are dissatisfied with the way the community is run. Politics and leadership always have their ups and downs. But don’t forget, we are ranked No. 2 in the NATION for best retirement communities. Our amenities are 45 years old but in great shape, and our dues and golf rates among the most affordable anywhere. If you dig closer into any other community, they too will have their issues that they are dealing with. Sun City West always strives to be forthcoming and transparent. Some discussions, per law and per the Bylaws, are private. But all votes and actions even on those items are public.
Are amenities?
Mr. Van Cott, can you elaborate on your question please?
“Are amenities” should be “Our amenities”.
Ahh, you are correct Amalia. Thank you. We have corrected the word.
This community has outstanding facilities at a reasonable cost. If you don’t think so why did you buy here. Fail to do your due diligence????
I really feel that whoever runs should live here and Sun City West. There are a lot of really smart and capable people here that way they live with everything that they do and pay for just like us I wish our community a lot of luck. I have been her 10 years., and have seen good and bad
You might be an excellent person to take over and turn it around.
Hire the best person for the job!
Absolutely someone from SCW is pretty much a given.
Thank You, Bill, for all you have done for Sun City West and your efforts to maintain and improve the Community you served. All the best in your next chapter!
Finally
If you can’t use your name Don’t reply. Anyone ever though about hiring a manager out of private industry. Someone who has ran a 150+ employee company.
Why are you anonymous?? If you can’t use your name, you shouldn’t reply.
thank you for your excellent guidance and decisions influenced for the betterment of Sun CityWest.
More importantly Tim Hurley should resign.
True. Too much do spent
I agree 100%. What was done with the “report card” flyer was despicable.
Finally about time. He cost the residents so much money that we don’t need to spend foolishly.
Sun City is old, but in spite of that they have spent their money wisely on rec Ctrs, solar shade in their parking lots, and facilities better maintained. We are newer and should be better, but we are not.
Sorry to see Bill go. He did an excellent job here even through tough times like Covid and Board recalls. Good luck to him.
Absolute shame! Bill Schwind is great for this community and wonderful to work with! I will miss his attention to detail and forward thinking for our community.
Most of the residents are relieved.
Randy Pace, please only speak for yourself.
Hopefully, but most don’t care or even vote. Hard to Buck this system.
And you know this how Mr. Pace?
I’m fairly new here so take that into account. I’ve been aware of “unhappiness” from several ex board members which was resolved. Now it appears that there is a bit of upheaval again, not a bad thing. As for the reasons Tim Hurley was suspended, I appreciate the need for confidentiality. I was in nursing management and had to make decisions for reasons I couldn’t share. Sometimes you just have to take the fallout!
