It’s that time of year again when we all begin planning for the spring and summer. Each year, I am diligently planning for the next Fiscal Year’s capital projects.

This is no easy task due to the timelines by policy for Governing Board budget approval by the end of May each year for next fiscal year’s expenditures.

Ultimately, best laid plans are defined per this final approval of capital projects. Generally, the items from our Reserve Study are predominantly approved and most important as they are existing assets of RCSCW and require repair and replacement in the fiscal year proposed.

The primary purpose of this memo is to inform the community of project planning schedules being made for some key areas so we can all make plans to use other facilities during closures. Planning and dates are always subject to change due to the short planning cycle provided per policy and approvals, material availability, and weather conditions for outdoor projects.

Palm Ridge’s Swim and Fitness Center will incur the greatest impact from project scheduling starting early summer 2024.

We are tentatively planning for the following projects at Palm Ridge:


  • Palm Ridge Indoor Pool – Tile Walls Wainscot Replacement (previous fiscal year approved project); approx. 4 to 6 week project, interior and exterior pool closure only.


  • Palm Ridge Exterior Pool – Deck Resurface; approx. 2 to 3 week project, interior and exterior pool closure only.
  • Palm Ridge Interior Pool – Deck Resurface; approx. overlapping 2 week project immediately after tile wainscot completed, interior and exterior pool closure only.
  • Palm Ridge Pickleball Facility – Courts 1 through 10 resurfacing; 3 week project, remaining courts will stay open.

July through August

  • Palm Ridge Restroom Partitions – Replacement; during other projects in progress.
  • Palm Ridge Activities Building – Hardwoods and maintenance closure; July 22 through August 9, full building closure.


  • Palm Ridge Fitness Room – Cardio & Strength Equipment Replacement; tentative due to availability and lead time needed to receive equipment, approx. 2 day closure of entire Swim and Fitness Building due to no access to lobby.

I will provide specific closure timeframes for Palm Ridge as soon as all information from each of the project’s selected vendors has been received. Please remember per policy no funding or contract agreements can be finalized before July 1, 2024.

The vast majority of the remaining approved FY24-25 capital projects will be scheduled throughout 2024 and 2025, with very little impact to the community overall. Those remaining project closures will be posted at a future date as determined by RCSCW. Updates for these projects will be made available at
