Further restrictions aimed at safety
As another precaution to keep our golfers and employees safe, the Rec Centers of Sun City West will no longer be issuing rental carts, pull carts or clubs, effective on closing April 3. Those who do not have their own carts may walk. The Rec Centers has already issued a one cart per person rule, unless the golfers live in the same household.
Good Policy: However, one would think, you could at least rent a pull cart!
My question is: Who decided to close the Sun City West Golf Courses? And what was the criteria for closing now in April? Thanks.
I understand closing all seven SCW golf courses will cost $200,000/week or more. How do you intend to recoup this loss? … by increasing the Rec Center fees, increase golfing fees, reducing maintenance, or imposing some other charges?
If some of the men golfers where not abiding by the spacing rules, first warn them and if they don’t abide then remove them from the golf course…don’t punish the whole community as if we are children.
With everything closed in our community, golfing was the one way to get outside and reduce stress, get some good sunshine which produces vit. D that fights the virus, and commune with fellow humans. Closing the golf courses now, so late in the virus cycle, seems a little weak in reasoning and logic. Another poor decision by the manager of the Rec centers. PS I’m not a golfer.
Another poor decision by the Manager of the Rec Centers!!
My husband & I would like to express our appreciation to George Pearson, PA at Desert Trails. While he was doing his job responding to an erroneous complaint reporting that my disabled husband drove onto the green (which he would not do) George treated my husband with respect & kindness. Thank you George.
Golf courses are closing on the 14th. I agree with all safety precautions but feel uneasy on this one. Question: Why wait till the 14th and let a potential virus spread for 8 more days when President Trump has stated many times in the last few days that the next 7-10 days will be the worst. Having tee times already made means absolutely nothing. They can be deleted in a heart beat. It sounds very much like a lot of pressure from non-golfers who have no rec centers, pools or clubs to go to so they want everyone else to be miserable. How else can you justify letting golf go on for 8 more days if you really care about safety.
Hi Rich. This is not an exact science. We are balancing a lot of needs/wants and of course, more than anything, safety. We picked the 14th to give golfers plenty of notice, and because Arizona’s peak was estimated to be late April/early May. That date as well is a moving target. As always, we advise any golfers who feel they are at heightened risk to stay home and not golf. For those who practice social distancing and are not at elevated risk, they may golf through April 14th, adhering to the many no-touch precautions we’ve already put in place.
I had heard the golf courses were closing the 14th, but saw no announcement anywhere? Where did you see this announcement?
Hi Nikki, the latest info from the Rec Centers related to this evolving situation can be found here: https://suncitywest.com/covid19/. We also post on our Facebook page.
I totally agree. If other SCW activities have been cancelled then so should golf. Waiting another week for the possible spread of the virus is just plain STUPID !!!
It’s all about money!!!
What is the reasoning behind no carts and clubs rhank you
Eliminating rentals means our employees won’t need to worry about sanitizing carts, eliminating another possibility of spread. We are taking as many precautions as we can.
Wanted express my appreciation in the SCW Golf Operations safety precautions that have been in place and practiced at the highest level for us golfers. From check-in to the last putt of the round, from the golf course Pro Shop employees to the players, I have seen everyone adhering to the safe rules that have been set up for the highest safety of all involved. I have found it to be much much safer than going to the grocery stores. It is sad that even with the greatest of safety precautions being practiced by all, there has been great pressure from those that are either non-golfers or just don’t understand how golf can be enjoyed from a social distance just as say going hiking or bicycling. But going to the grocery store and handling shopping carts and standing in an isle with a number of others isn’t as risky. I am getting off the purpose of this comment, that is to say once again, hats off to the SCW Golf Operations for all they have and are doing, Thank you!
Closing the golf course this late in the game is a bad decision. Bill you stated in an earlier video as to golf provides some type of social distancing. What about the financial aspect? I understand not providing rental equipment.
I believe, it is time to have a serious discussion about reopening facilities. The part time residents are gone or mostly gone, which reduces the amount of residents using the facilities. The gyms for example, the users of the gyms are very conscientious with wiping equipment before and after each use. How about researching the “signed in users” of all the facilities during the period of April thru September VS October to March..I believe the numbers will be sufficiently down in usage. This may be a more accurate info than the scientist and their virus projections. lastly, Is the board applying for the Paycheck Protection Program? I believe Non Profits are eligible. Thank You in Advance
Mr. Kvochick, Arizona is predicted to reach its peak in the next couple of weeks. That means more and more people in our area will be infected, and spreading this disease. We kept courses open as long as possible with as many safety precautions in place as possible. Yes, there is a financial loss with closing, but safety is and always has been our No. 1 priority. The time has come where the number of expected cases in Arizona and our area dictates this closure.
This is non sense. We are all grown adults. If the governor has not mandated closing golf courses then why not let us grown adults who do take the neccessary precautions make our own decision as to what is best for us. If someone feels like they dont want to go play golf or go outside, then that’s their choice.. we use our own equipment, we follow the rules set by the golf courses.
I think you have bowed to the pressure.
What is going to be the policy for annual cards like the Kachina card when the golf courses close?
We will see how long the closures last, but we intend to provide some kind of extension of the cards.
One honest question. Why would you close the SCW courses when all other ones are open?
Does closed courses mean practice areas as well? I have been putting on the practice green–only 1 or 2 other golfers; we keep 20 feet apart. The distance is even greater at the chipping areas!
yes, it will include all practice areas.
I have heard of the golf course closures starting April 14th. I understand why certain groups are upset course are still open. All groups need to look at each situation. Golfers, pay at window, swipe their own credit card and rec card. no hanging around after golfing. Golfers pay at window by swiping their rec card than, swiping credit card, no cash allowed, and are in separate carts, no ball washers, no pulling out flags and ball does not drop all the way down in to hole. No trap rakes, so golfers are adhering to all the safety rules. Other sports like pickle ball, each person is touching the ball all game, and bodily fluids are flying due to exertion. Bowling also has crowds and everyones bowling ball going down same lane and ball return. Plus they are in a enclosed area. Closing golf course is a bad idea. if the employees at courses are willing to keep working then courses should be left open. If no employees are willing to work then course should be closed down. If you only have a handful of employees that want to remain working, then open as many courses to accommodate the number of employees, closing the remaining. Just because certain groups can’t enjoy their pastime, don’t take it out on the golfers and complain. Heck, learn to play golf and join in the fun.
Foolish decision. Should be left open to SC Residents.
