About SwingTime

About SwingTime

Join the SwingTime quartet for Christmas and seasonal favorites, including tunes about reindeer, snow, sleigh rides, and jolly old Saint Nick, all spiced up with a little bit of jazz.
Dan Reed, trumpet, lends his energy and sense of fun to every ensemble in the Valley. He picked up the trumpet at age 9 and hasn’t stopped playing since. Dan graduated from Indiana University with a degree in music performance and then spent 20 years as music director for Princess Cruise Lines. A native of St. Louis, Dan joined the Phoenix music scene in 2011.
Clark Chaffee, drums and vocals, is a versatile performer and music educator from Illinois who has been a driving force in the musical life of the Valley since 2013. He directs the Surprise Pops Band and the West Valley Wind Ensemble, and plays with the Sun City Stomperz, Pro Musica Arizona, and the Scottsdale Philharmonic. Clark built the orchestra program at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill., and he played timpani with the Elgin (Ill.) Symphony for 20 years. He currently mentors band and orchestra directors in the West Valley.
Richard Palalay, keyboards, is a well-known Phoenix area musician whose inventive compositions and creative arrangements have been heard on national and cable TV. Originally from Hawaii, he works with singers and instrumentalists throughout the Valley on everything from recording an album to developing a stage show. Richard has played venues from cruise ships to Las Vegas, and is considered one of the top pianists in Arizona.
Ellie Chaffee, vocals, is a retired teacher and librarian who loves singing in a variety of musical genres. When she’s not playing pickleball, she performs with several area ensembles in addition to SwingTime, including a folk group, a Beatles tribute band, and the band FlashDrive. She is also the narrator for the West Valley Wind Ensemble and the Surprise Pops Band.
