The Recreation Centers of Sun City West reminds members of upcoming work scheduled for the R.H. Johnson Pool.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 16, warranty replacement of the pool deck is set to begin. The Rec Centers will not have to cover any of the repair cost for this project as this is a warranty replacement by the vendor after last year’s deck installation began to fail early due to a problem with the resin used in the rubber mixture.
During the closure for the pool deck repairs, the Rec Centers Facilities Maintenance staff will rebuild the backwash system. Environmental Services staff will also be removing a dead palm tree during this time as well.

The reason why the resin did not cure properly is that they applied it when the temperature exceeded the manufacturers recommended high temperature, which is 85 degrees. You will find this on the drums or cans of the product. Doing it in the month of September is not the right time. The better time is when the daytime temperatures are below 85 degrees. This warranty work will fail as well. I have a vast knowledge of epoxy and resin based finishes. Please feel free to contact me.
I understand that painting the exterior of buildings in the heat of Arizona summers is not prudent. Refinishing parking lots during this period is not wise.
