Movies shown at Stardust Theatre will take on a new format and schedule starting in July.
With the Friends of the Library concluding their 45-year run with the movies, the Rec Centers will take up the program next month with movies every other week: Tuesday matinees at 1 p.m., and Thursday shows at 6 p.m.
Please note the evening shows are starting earlier than before, and the Tuesday matinees are a new addition. The format and timing will be evaluated this summer to gauge response, and some changes may come in the fall depending on audience response.
The Rec Centers is also adjusting the way tickets are handled to eliminate the long lines of movie-goers who showed up well in advance of showtime to get the best seats. Starting in July, all seating will be reserved.
Only members may purchase tickets – up to four per rec card. Doors will open 30 minutes before show time, and members are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes early. At 5 minutes until showtime, any vacant seats will be made available to those who do not yet have tickets, including non-members.
Tickets for seat reservations will be available one week prior to each show. Visit suncitywest.com/tickets. You do not need to print your tickets. Just show your digital ticket on your phone or check in at the door for your seat assignment. If you do not arrive at least five minutes before the show starts, your seat may be given to someone else.
Doors will be closed at showtime. Any late arrivals may be seated at the discretion of staff and volunteers. Show-goers may bring reusable water bottles only (preferably not the disposable, noisy plastic ones).
As the summer shows progress, staff will evaluate the program’s success and possibly make adjustments for the fall.
Member feedback is encouraged; visit surveymonkey.com/r/SCWmovies to let us know what you’d like to see in the new program format after the summer’s trial period. The survey will close on July 11.

So happy the rec ctr adm recognizes a need for those that are not snowbirds. Adding a Tuesday matinee is a perfect way to spend a hot afternoon. Reserved seating is a great benefit, too! No saving of seats!!
So movies will be shown only twice a month?
Hi Aletha. A total of 4 movies will be shown in a month. Two matinee showings at 1 p.m. and Two evening showings at 6 p.m.
appreciate reserved seating.
