On Monday, March 30, Recreation Centers of Sun City West voters chose three new directors for the Governing Board and approved two bylaw changes.
Sandra Forsey, Ron Petrin and Alan Schlemmer will begin three-year terms when the new fiscal year begins on Wednesday, July 1. As the fourth-place finisher, Mike Kosanda will begin a one-year term on July 1 to complete a previous vacancy on the Governing Board.
A total of 5,312 members cast ballots, for a 21.3 percent turnout.
Forsey and Schlemmer are already on the Board, as they were filling unfinished terms left by earlier director resignations. On July 1, they both will begin their own three-year terms.
The directors-elect will join continuing Directors Anne Becknell, John Chattin, Rudy Grom, Jolene Piaskowski and Nick Turner.
Christine Novello and Kay Williams complete their terms on June 30.
On Thursday, April 23, the new Directors will join continuing directors at a special organizational meeting to choose officers for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The volunteer Governing Board is comprised of nine Owner Members who are elected to serve three-year terms. Vacancies with shorter terms are filled as the need arises.
The candidates, in order of their vote totals, were:
- Ron Petrin, 4,172 votes
- Alan Schlemmer, 3,808 votes
- Sandra Forsey, 3,593 votes
- Mike Kosanda, 3,237 votes
Along with selecting new directors, voters also were asked to vote on two proposed bylaw changes. One would update language about absentee ballots and the election process to make it consistent with state law and our existing practices. The other would shorten the election cycle (to begin in January rather than November), in order to simplify the process and encourage more participation.
Both of those bylaw changes passed. The one to update the language passed with 86.7 percent of the vote. The updated timeline changes passed with 86.9 percent of the vote.
Both bylaw changes can be read online at suncitywest.com/2026election.

Thank you for all of the open meetings and published information offered to all residents.
I’m sad the turnout to vote is so small compared to those eligible.
