The Recreation Centers of Sun City West would like to make members aware of two projects coming up at the RH Johnson Pool and Spa.
The spa will be closed Tuesday, June 4, to replace sprinkler heads that are part of the fire alarm system. The sprinkler heads are functioning but old and need to be replaced. The closure will be June 4 only.
Repairs to the RH Johnson Pool deck also will be required, although the date for that work has not yet been scheduled. The deck surface, which was put in place 9 months ago, is failing early due to a problem with the resin used in the rubber mixture.
Rec Centers’ staff worked closely with the installing vendor, Rubcorp, to determine the cause of the failure and to ensure RCSCW would not be financially responsible for the repairs. Those answers came this week. Rubcorp determined the binder formulation used when installing the rubber coating caused the failure. That formulation had been modified from what the vendor normally uses. As a result, the Rec Centers will not have to cover any repair costs.
Installations of the same product with the original binder formulation have held up very well in other communities, including those in Arizona and Las Vegas with similar summer temperatures.
Rubcorp will install a new surfacing system to replace the current surface in Sun City West. As soon as the work is scheduled, the Rec Centers will put out additional information for members.
Hopefully common sense will prevail and that time will not be in the heat of summer. A winter install would be much more appropriate.
I second Deb’s statement!
Another year and another repair to the nearly new RHJ pool. Will it ever end??
Another thought is that it may need to be done during between certain temperatures… not knowing what type of material they are using, but sometimes the weather can affect the outcome of certain repairs and such. Glad it’s being taken care of.
Glad we aren’t responsible for the redo. Thanks for keeping us informed!
How about cleaning the CLOUDINESS in the pool up that I have been complaining about for 3 years ! . I show management the WATER QUALITY readings 2 – 3 times a week ( 50% – 70% at best is the problem ) and all I get is INTIMATION TACTICS and now I have been informed that THIS MANAGEMENT holds grudges and will retaliate. We the residence of Sun City West deserve better, comments from SUN CITY WEST Reviews of a few years ago say in the last 20 this place has gone down hill, Sup with this ?
I honestly don’t understand why they’re putting all that falling apart cool decking stuff over it Palm Ridge. I guess nobody learned the lesson with what happened at RHJohnson with this stuff falling apart and ruining the filters.
