RH Johnson Library & Data Resource Center

The Library is the most recognized building in Sun City West with its clock tower and chimes.  The Library was established in 1979 and houses 40,000-plus items including regular and large print books, books on CD, periodicals, investment resources, and DVDs, as well as reference and homebound-books by mail services which are all available to Sun City West owner-members. Your Recreation Card is your Library Card. You must have a SCW Recreation Card to check-out materials.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, the Data Resource Center will open by appointment only. Call 623-544-6644 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to set up a 50-minute appointment. You are encouraged to wear a face mask (not provided). Do not come early before your appointment. We will use the 10 minutes between appointments to sanitize the computer area.

Overdrive with the Libby and overdrive apps have eBooks and audiobooks that can be accessed from home at https://scw.overdrive.com/

What if my items are due? Will I accrue late fees?

No late fees will accrue on materials that were originally due during the closure period.

Can I drop off my materials in outdoor book drop?

The Book drop will be open. You can keep all checked out materials until the library is open. There will not be any late fees. 

How to use Curbside Pickup
  1. Reserve your items in the Library Catalog or call (602) 544-6130.
  2. Once your items become available you will be notified. You may then pick them up only during Curbside hours.  You will have 3 days to pick up your item(s). After 3 days, your item(s) will be placed back on the shelves.
  3. When arriving, follow the posted signs to find the designated parking area.
  4. STAY IN YOUR CAR and one of our staff members will approach your window from a safe distance to ask you for your Name and Rec Card number.
  5. When they return with your items, please open the back of your vehicle so the staff member may safely place your items inside.

Earl E. Mackert Data Resource Center

Located in R.H. Johnson Library, the center provides modern computer terminals with high-speed internet browsing as well as Microsoft Office 365 for residents of Sun City West and their visiting guests.

The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library Endowment Fund

The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library is a chartered club.

Throughout the year new books are being purchased and subscriptions maintained to more than 120 magazines, newspapers and financial reports. and they are all paid for by the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library.
The majority of the money for these materials comes from the the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library Endowment Fund. This fund is made up of contributions from residents of Sun City West who respond to our annual fund drive. Many companies will match the gifts of their former employees. The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library is a 501(c) 3 organization, and such gifts are tax-deductible.

Children’s Department

The Children’s Department offers puzzles, books, magazines, books on CD, and DVDs for preschool through sixth grade.

Special Holiday Story Times for youngsters visiting Sun City West feature exciting, kid-friendly stories and treats such as stickers, bookmarks, and coloring sheets.
