The Library is the most recognized building in Sun City West with its clock tower and chimes. The Library was established in 1979 and houses 40,000-plus items including regular and large print books, books on CD, periodicals, investment resources, and DVDs, as well as reference and homebound-books by mail services which are all available to Sun City West owner-members. Your Recreation Card is your Library Card. You must have a SCW Recreation Card to check-out materials.

On Thursday, December 24 the Library Curbside hours are shortened to 9 am to 1 pm.
The Library and Data Resource Center will be closed for all services on Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1.
CURBSIDE PICKUP INFORMATION
Starting Tuesday, Dec. 15, the library will only be allowing members to check out items using their curbside pickup service. The curbside hours are Tuesday – Saturday 9am to 4pm.
Items can be reserved for curbside pickup through the library’s online catalog (catalog.scwlibrary.com) or by calling 623-544-6130.
Members will then be notified by library staff once their items are available for pickup. When picking up, members must provide their rec card number to staff in order to receive their items. Checked out items can be returned via the book drop boxes, which are available 24 hours a day.
The Data Resource Center in the Library will be available at 50 percent capacity by appointment only. Visits are limited to one hour in the DRC. Access to the rest of the Library will be prohibited. Call 623-544-6644 to reserve a computer in the Data Resource Center.
Earl E. Mackert Data Resource Center
Located in R.H. Johnson Library, the center provides modern computer terminals with high-speed internet browsing as well as Microsoft Office 365 for residents of Sun City West and their visiting guests.
The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library Endowment Fund
The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library is a chartered club.
Throughout the year new books are being purchased and subscriptions maintained to more than 120 magazines, newspapers and financial reports. and they are all paid for by the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library.
The majority of the money for these materials comes from the the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library Endowment Fund. This fund is made up of contributions from residents of Sun City West who respond to our annual fund drive. Many companies will match the gifts of their former employees. The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library is a 501(c) 3 organization, and such gifts are tax-deductible.
The Children’s Department offers puzzles, books, magazines, books on CD, and DVDs for preschool through sixth grade.
Special Holiday Story Times for youngsters visiting Sun City West feature exciting, kid-friendly stories and treats such as stickers, bookmarks, and coloring sheets.
