Sun City West residents:
If you haven’t heard by now, the Recreation Centers of Sun City West is in the midst of preparing a Master Plan for our community. This plan will help us prepare the Association for a variety of potential upgrades and changes that could be implemented to ensure Sun City West remains the premier community of its type over the next 5 to 10 years. A new generation of residents, changing views around facility needs, leisure activities, food and beverages and facility use will all be addressed as part of this effort.
We have contracted with Epic Strategies to conduct an analysis of other active-adult communities to look at trends in our niche throughout the nation and here in Arizona. While Sun City West has ranked very high (usually in the top 5) active-adult communities nationally in the last several years, it’s always good to take a look at what the “competition” is doing and what we can do better.
As importantly, we want to hear from you to see what you like most about our community, and what you think we can do better. What amenities do we have that you love, and what are we missing that you’d like to see?
We are collecting information in two ways. Through a survey you may complete online, and through roundtables you may attend to share your thoughts in person.
All residents are invited to complete this survey online: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MasterPlan2022
The survey will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, and close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, so if you want to share your thoughts, please do so before then. All individual comments will remain anonymous, but the information will be used in aggregate by Epic Strategies to map out the Master Plan. Residents who do not have computers may use a computer at the Data Resource Center at the Library (be sure to bring your rec card to use a computer), or may pick up a hard copy of the survey at the Library or the reception desk at R.H. Johnson Administration Offices; hard copies must be returned to either location no later than 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14.
The survey will be followed by community round tables. These sessions will all be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, but will be held at locations throughout Sun City West to make it as convenient as possible for our membership. Seating is limited, so please reserve your spot early if you want to participate in one of these sessions:
- 9-10 a.m., Lecture Hall, R.H. Johnson
- 10:30-11:30, Computer Club Room, Palm Ridge
- 1-2 p.m., Agave Room, Beardsley
- 2:30-3:30 p.m. Multicraft Room 5, Kuentz
Reservations will be taken beginning Monday, Jan. 3. After that date, you may call 623-544-6110 or send your request to email@suncitywest.com. Please include your name, rec card number, and requested time/location. Your reservation is not finalized until staff confirms it . Once all spots are filled, no more reservations will be taken. If you know in advance you will not be able to attend, please call to cancel so we can open the spot for another resident.
I CLICKED ON THE WEB SITE FOR THE SURVEY BUT IT DID NOT COME UP.
WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE SURVERY
Hi Donald. Our Master Plan survey will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, and close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19.
I clicked on the monkey survey but it does not come up. Can you fix it?
Hi Diane. Our Master Plan survey will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, for those wanting to participate. It will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19.
January 4
The survey website comes up with Oh bananas on both the rec center website and the pickleball website. It seems as though this is not easy for those community members wishing to add comments.
Sounds like a good start to the planning initiatives. We do plan to participate in the on-line survey.
Just One day (Feb 1) of round table discussions seem rather limited. Sadly we will not be able to attend those discussions that day.
Will the round tables be on video. That would be a good idea considering the current spike in covid cases.
Where would I go to make a reservation for the Feb. Roundtable Discussion today?
Hi Pam. To make a reservation for one of the roundtable sessions, please call 623-544-6110 or send your request to email@suncitywest.com. Please include your name, rec card number and requested time/location.
I would like to see the questions on the survey to give it some thought before filling it out. It looks like I can only log in once. Could we see the questions here?
The survey was well thought out but should have general suggestions sections. I would like to see more evening activities. More walking trails throughout the community maybe incorporating the golf courses. Things like this. There was not an area to make suggestions
I just called the above number to ask if masks and social distancing will be required for resident attendees to the round table discussions. And was informed that only staff are required to mask and social distance and attendees are only ENCOURAGED to mask. What good will this do for the resident attendees? Your staff will be protected but we would not.. Why can’t these discussions be available online to dues paying residents who would prefer NOT to be exposed to COVID by residents who don’t mask and don’t care about infecting other residents?
I have 3 items, the survey was very bland. The officers of the of the Governing Board should have term limits set at 3 or 4 years. After their term limit is over, they can’t hold office again for 10 or more years. Should be in the community statues. Currently certain people are on the board every other year, why? Some other facilities should be charging higher fees to use venues. They say golf has to be self supporting, other clubs need to raise fee for the space used and not just for the instructors or facilitator.
Would like a ordinance, where parking on streets will be restricted overnight.
