The Recreation Centers of Sun City West is partnering with Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Sun Health Research Institute to bring information to the Sun City West community from their world-renowned center.
The first of the informational lectures provided by the Banner Institutes will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the Palm Ridge Summit Hall. They will provide an information session about “Dementia Friends.” The event is free and open to all; no tickets required.
Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act and talk about dementia. Attend this one-hour information session to learn what dementia is; what it’s like to live with the disease; the most common types of dementia; and tips for communicating with people who have dementia. Everyone who attends is asked to turn their understanding of dementia into action —either big or small — to help fellow community members living with dementia.
The Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Sun Health Research Institute have many other resources that can help provide the community with information on brain health, including the Brain Health Check-In, which provides free memory and thinking screenings to detect concerns for potential early cognitive impairment. Participants receive relevant, personalized information and concern status regarding their memory and thinking, as well as recommendations for follow-up screenings and strategies to optimize brain health.
Join a growing movement of people by attending the Dementia Friends information session and learn how to help fellow community members who are living with dementia. A little support can make a big difference!
This is wonderful! Will this event be recorded for those unable to attend in person?
Hi Nissa. At this moment, there are no plans for a recording of this event.
Is there a place in Sun City West that I can take my neighbor that has stage 4 dementia and would like to meet and talk to other people with same problems.
Thank you.
