The Recreation Centers of Sun City West’s COVID Task Force has extended the closure of the fitness centers and indoors pools through at least Feb. 1.
COVID cases continue to rise in Maricopa County and Sun City West, while health officials warn the state may have to implement its Crisis of Standards Care plan, which determines the priority for care in hospitals if there is a shortage of beds, supplies and healthcare staff. Should that plan be put into effect, further closures will be considered.
Several chartered clubs have closed on their own accord. A list of which clubs are closed and which are open with restrictions can be found at suncitywest.com/covid19. Mask mandates remain in effect at all indoor facilities.
Other departments within the Association remain status quo, but that could change at any time. Residents should check suncitywest.com/COVID19 for the latest. As of now, the departments open/closed schedule is as follows:
Fitness Centers (including indoor swimming pools and spas, racquetball, table tennis, massage, personal training and group fitness): Closed through Feb. 1. The closure will be extended if needed. Outdoor facilities (tennis, pickleball, lawn bowls, walking tracks, bocce, mini golf, etc.) will remain open. Equipment is available for rent at the activities center, and is cleaned between users.
Golf & Sports Pavilion: Open with existing precautions in place.
Clubs: Most open with the exception of social clubs and those that can’t physically distance. Those clubs that
are open are strongly encouraged to enact voluntary closures at this time; closures may be mandated in the future.
Member Services: By appointment only. Call 623-544-6100.
Administrative/Governing Board Offices: By appointment only. Call 623-544-6000.
Library: Curbside pickup for materials; Data Resource by appointment only. Call 623-544-6130 but expect wait times on the phone.

What do you mean by saying we have to RENT the clubs for mini golf? Really, we need money that bad and our almost $500 per year won’t even pay for clubs? Maybe you need to clarify this as we have never had to rent clubs for mini golf.
Please reopen everything! Now! Let people make a choice whether they choose to use a facility or not, our choice! Definitely hand washing etc. If you are concerned about covid, don’t go out. The rest of people can continue life as usual. We have no choice about paying our fees, yet are getting little for our money.
Either we open the gym and rec center start giving us a refund!
Agree
I normally exercise three times a week at Beardsley center. I have never seen a more clean center and the monitors do a great job. Everyone cooperates with masks and cleaning. We need to exercise for our health!
This is truly crazy. We as seniors need to take care of our health. Yet, you continue to close gyms and indoor pools but keep bowling alley open. Makes no sense to me. When I utilized the gym there were no more then 4 people working out. Beardsley pool is huge and only 4-6 people walked during any given time. I am really disgusted with the rules you have put on everyone here. You said you would follow the state recommendations and you have not. Gov. Ducey did not close gyms and indoor pools at this time.
I am puzzled by the so-called reports that COVID statistics have risen in Sun City West and yet the stats I read don’t agree with that assessment. Could you please tell our community what the numbers you are looking at each week so that we have an understanding of the given analysis? Thank you for your hard work and Information.
