RCSCW Update – Oct. 2
Following feedback from our residents regarding the fact that our pink guest cards list no expiration date, Association management has decided to alter our policy on the cards. While we still encourage all members to use their pink guest passes by the end of the calendar year, they will continue to be honored after that date. We appreciate our members’ feedback.
Recreation Centers of Sun City West members are advised to use up any remaining pink guest cards in their possession before Dec. 31, 2019.
The legacy cards have not been sold since 2012, when the Rec Centers upgraded to digital guest credits. The pink cards have been honored since, but that will end at the end of 2019. No reimbursement will be made for any unused punches.
Residents may use the pink guest cards at any monitor’s station to check in their visitors. One punch per person, per day, will admit the guest; the guest will then be given a receipt to use for admittance to other facilities the rest of the day. Golf and bowling have separate fees.
Pink guest cards were sold for as little as $1 per punch years ago; the cost for a guest is now $3.50 per day. The digital system now in place can account for changing prices, but the legacy cards cannot and management is hoping to remove most of those left in circulation.

Example of pink guest cards

I think it is not fair to take away the use of these cards. They where bought in good faith and there is no expiration date on them. So I believe they should be honored
I agree with above comment
I totally agree with above comments. My guests will not return until after the holidays!!!
I totally agree….cards were purchased in belief in the system and there is another concrete example as to members not being treated fairly…our belief in SCW community there to help the members is disappearing…shame on members were being treated fairly?.even our membership cost continue to increase, year after year….
When the card was purchased a $1 punch was worth $3.50 in today’s dollars.
I propose all pink cards be turned in and original unused value be applied to the individuals account. This way nobody loses $ and everyone pays the same amount for each guest entry.
Can you transfer the monetary value of the pink card to the current rec card? I can understand the desire to do away with the pick cards, but transferring the balances should be easy if the pink card is brought to the rec center office.
Agree with Maria. Transfer the “punches” to a current rec card, each good for one $3.50 per day visit by a guest. It’s only fair. You are creating a lot of bad will with the way you’re handling this policy change. As a recently-retired former RCSCW employee, I know you don’t need that!
I agree that any balance should be transferred as there is no expiration date
So much for no expiration date and no refund to boot. Sounds like another typical Board ripe off. Why not give credit for no use? Too Cheap or not worth your while?
They were issued without an expiration date and so should be honored or be redeemed at the current rate. This is really about fairness.
These cards were purchased and paid for by the member and should be honored. Just because you changed the way guest cards are now purchased is not fair for those of us who purchased the pink legacy cards. Why can you not add the equal number of unused punches on the pink card to the digital cards?
I agree with above comments. We have a card and feel we should be able to get a refund because we purchased them with the understanding they would be good for a long time.
I don’t mean to sound MEAN, but if you passed on, would any body really care about a punch card you may have bought 7 years ago that YOU haven’t used yet???
I agree with Ron’s comment too. They should be honored as there is no expiration date on them. I think the computer/digital program could be altered to add a special code to accommodate the pink card when/if they are used.
I think the least you could do, since the cards say they don’t expire is to pay them $1 a punch (the original amount they paid per punch) for each punch remaining on their card or cards.
These cards were bought in good faith. The least you can do is reimburse us for the unused portion. When the new program was put in place it was stated that we could continue to use these cards. It’s no wonder we don’t trust anyone anymore.
When the new system was put in-place, did you use the cards? NO. The last cards issued are now 7 years old. If you haven’t used them by now, shame on you.
Why can’t we turn them in for a refund or convert to digital?
Thank you to everyone for sharing your comments about the recent decision to end redemption of the pink guest cards on Dec. 31, 2019. These cards have not been sold for seven years, and during that time, we have been asking members to use them up as they would eventually be retired. Seven years is a long time to use them up, and there are still four more months to go. There are not many of these left out in the community, and we appreciate members using them prior to Dec. 31.
This is the first I’ve heard that the no expiration card would be retired. If there are so few left as you say you should transfer the
number of guest visits remaining on the card to the new system.
Seven years is plenty of time to use these cards. Too many rental properties are allowing short term guests to use SCW Rec centers and scam the rules.
I agree. 7 years is plenty of time.
My very good friend has allowed me to stay in there house for the last 4 years for 10 days in February. And every day I have used the rec centers for sun, pickel Ball and golf. Are you saying I cannot use the Center’s as a guest if the member is not present with me? How can I purchase a guest pass for the 10 days I will be staying in my friends house?
Thank you
John
Why can’t those Members receive a credit for punches not used and added to their new cards, at least this way they won’t be out any monies already paid, or what is the possibility of just punching the new visitor cost from there cards for the new visitor cost, members have to understand cost do go up. But they shouldn’t have to lose any monies already paid.
Totally wrong of the rec center to not at least transfer the money we spent on 2 cards that were purchased in good faith 14 years ago.
I’m sorry my family only comes once a year and they don’t get used.
I agree with the other comments. To be fair, if the guest credits can’t be transferred to the digital system, the equivalent value of unused punches should at least be credited. When I bought my card I looked at it like Forever Stamps that I buy at the post office. It has no expiration date and I prepaid to lock in the lower price. Retail gift cards and coupons with no expiration date, must be honored.
Rec center says to use up the guest passes by the end of the end year. Where are we to find the guests to use card. Is rec center
implying that we go outside SCW to find people to be guests?
They’re for guests!!! Where you get your guests from is your business. Quit Whining
This is totally unfair. The cards say ‘no expiration date’. We purchased them with this in mind. We don’t have the visitors we used to have when we bought the cards but still use them when someone shows up for the day. As you, the Rec Center’ say “There are not many of these left out in the community” you should honor the unused cards and eventually they would be used up. At least you would be keeping your word. I know this isn’t a hardship for the monitors to either stamp or write a date on them. Please rethink this decision.
Transfer credit.
I think that the unused balance on the card should be credited to the digital rec card. The rec center needs to honor its word.
Very disappointing as have several spaces on our cards for our out of town company. Purchased these in good faith. Seems like the remaining punches should be transferred to the new system. Please be fair to SCW residents.
Seems like you don’t have much company. Quit whining or get new friends
I think that the unused balance should be transferred to the new system. The Card does say NO EXPIRATION DATE!!!!! I think that the recreation center can afford to give a refund for the unused $ on the card or add the number to the new system. Please be fair and honor what the card says….NO EXPIRATION. DATE!!!!!!
Really? What a bunch of whiners over a couple of bucks. If you haven’t had the opportunity to use the punch cards since 2012, maybe it’s time to invite some guests!
If that $2, $3, or even $10 dollars is SO important to you, sell your card to a neighbor to use for their guests before 2020. They get a bargain and you get your money back.
In reading all of the above comments, it appears there is a consensus that these unused card punches should either be added to the new digital system or a reimbursement provided to the pink card holder. As was noted by the Rec. Center’s response, there are only a few pink cards left unused, therefore is it not to their best interest to honor, in some way, the use or reimbursement value of those cards? The other question that comes to mind is it legal to just eliminate the use of the pink card when sold to membership with the understanding they had a no expiration date? You may want to rethink the bad will you are creating along with any legal ramifications that may transpire.
Totally unfair. It is the principle of the idea that these cards were bought in good faith with no expiration date and should be honored as such or transferred. And, no, we are not whiners but people who stand by principle no matter if it is $1 or $100. Do the right thing!
I don’t have a pink card, but if I did, I would be upset. It is not the amount of money, but the broken promise of good faith that is upsetting. The photo provided clearly states “IT HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE”. If there is a problem with “short term rental” scammers as was noted, then they should be punished — not all pink card holders with money left on their cards. If there aren’t that many pink cards left, it shouldn’t be a big job to give credits to those who paid for them. I will volunteer to help put the credits in the system if you need someone to enter them. Please contact me if you change your minds and want to do this and make things right.
Being new to SCW, I’ve not been in a position to need a PUNCH card. What’s the total value of a CARD? If it’s a monetary thing then I guess they must be really expensive, Or am I just hearing a bunch of whiners “WHINE”. Oh and by the way, that’s not uncommon for senior citizens that don’t have anything else to do. Things change. Progress happens. Get over it!!! Rentals do take away from residents benefits. Yes, there needs to be a process to control who is and isn’t entitled to use OUR facilities. In this digital world, Punch cards are obsolete. There’s always an option. Sell and move to somewhere that WHINERS are appreciated. I’m guessing that those that complain the most have never been on a board that manages a multi million dollar complex like we have. Oh, and by the way, I believe they’re doing a fine job with out you.
I wish people would stop being ugly and calling these folks “whiners.” For some it may be about the $$, but for most it seems it’s the principle of the idea of eliminating these “no expiration” cards. I no longer have any pink cards, but didn’t feel the new policy was fair at all. I’m only sorry it took SO many comments and SO many letters to the editor for Association management to change their minds. That bad will is going to stick. Poor decision.
Good move by the Board. Thanks for your continued service to us.
