Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – October 23, 2017

Facility Projects:

1. Echo Mesa Parking Lot reseal and restripe was completed on October 20.

2. Kuentz Tile Roof Felt Replacement and Parapet Wall Repairs are in progress and we expect this project to be completed on Nov. 21.

3. The Sports Pavilion Flat Roof Replacement Project is in progress and continues through Nov. 21.

4. We will be resurfacing Palm Ridge Pickleball courts 1 – 10 beginning today, Oct. 23. We expect this project to be completed in approximately 2 weeks.

5. Karl and Tony will be attending a Variance Meeting at Maricopa County this week (Oct. 24) on the RHJ Enhancement project and entry signage.

6. Facilities Project Supt. Karl Wilhelm will be making a presentation at TORCH this week.

Facility Maintenance:

7. The new parts for the R.H. Johnson Indoor Spa Heating unit were received and the Spa is now up and running.

8. The new RHJ pool motor for the fountains has been delivered and will be installed tomorrow.

9. The R. H. Johnson Pool sprung a leak near a ball valve in one of the filtration pipes. It appears a drill hole in one of the pipes was the cause of the leak.  Shasta Pools came out immediately and plugged the hole and will permanently fix the problem in the near future.  We were very pleased with their response time.

10. An electrical issue at the Kuentz Pool took the circulation motor down om Friday. Thanks to Facility Maintenance Staff it is now up and running.

Recreation:

11. Our next “So You Think You Have Talent” is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Kuentz Courtyard on Oct. 24and features Singer Wilene Kohler and Friends. Country all the way!.

12. This year’s Chartered Club Officer’s Meetings were held last week and very well attended.

13. Saturday, Concert In the Park is scheduled at 7 p.m. at Beardsley Park on Oct. 14 and features The Newtones (formerly known as the Realtones).

14. Our next Sunday Movie the Park (Oct. 22) is “Going in Style”. Join us at sunset.  Our movies in the Park have been averaging about 600 attendees.

15. Our next Jam Session is from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Kuentz Courtyard on Monday, Oct. 23. Join us for two hours of entertainment where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the music!

16. Our Halloween Dance scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27 is SOLD OUT!

17. 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. is the RHJ Chartered Clubs Open House. 30 different Clubs will be participating in this event.

18. Our Great Garage Sale took place on Saturday, Oct. 21. It was attended by lots of people who took advantage of some really good bargains.

19. Make plans to attend “Fall Fest” at Beardsley Park on Thursday and Fridy, Nov. 2 & 3. ’56 Thursday takes place on Thursday, 11/2 and SuperHuey Friday takes place on 11/3.  Both shows start at 7 p.m.  Gates open at 5 p.m. and full concessions will be available for sale.  Tickets are $20 per person for a ticket package for both nights or $12.50 for an individual show and are on sale at the RHJ Box Office or on line at www.suncitywest.com.

Sports Pavilion:

20. Sunday’s Special brought in $505.

21. 42 attended NFL Sunday.

22. Jim Montgomery bowled an 805 series game last week. Congratulations Jim!

Library:

23. Join us for our Virtual Realtiy Halloween Haunted House sessions featuring a super scary virtual haunted house. It will be offered at the Library on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31.  Residents my register by calling 623-544-6644.

24. Three more Virtual Reality sessions are scheduled for this Friday, October 27. The experience is proving to be very popular and receiving enthusiastic feedback. All slots are filled through November, but residents my reserve times in December by visiting the Data Resource Center or calling 623-544-6644.

25. The Library’s Halloween and Story Time and Parade has become an annual tradition. All young grandchildren and their families are invited to gather in the Main Room of the Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 21.  After our not-too-scary stories, we will parade through the Library for kids to collect some non-candy treats.

26. Medicare – 2018! The Benefits Assistance Program at the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, presents “Medicare 2018” at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30 in Social Hall West.  This program is free and open to everyone.  Tickets are not required.  The presentation is all about Medicare and any changes in 2018.  It is for people newly eligible for Medicare and for those already enrolled.

General Services;

27. We will again be taking out SCW ads in the Surprise Visitor’s Guide and their Relocation Guide.

28. We will be testing and doing a demonstration of our new on-line Lottery software and looking for feedback.

Village Store:

29. The Village Store continues to work on the upcoming Fall Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, Nov. 4. All credit card machines have been updated

Environmental Services:

30. Grandview, Trail Ridge, Stardust and Desert Trails Golf reopened on Tuesday, October 17. Cart path restrictions will be lifted on Oct. 24.

31. Echo Mesa, Pebblebrook and Deer Valley golf courses closed for overseeding last week, Thursday, Oct. 19 and will reopen on Tuesday, November 7.

32. All general landscaping areas have been overseeded with the exception of Beardsley Park which will close on 11/16/17 for overseeding and reopen 12/05/17.

33. The Great Lawn at the new RHJ Pool will be mowed today.

34. Beardsley Park closes for overseeding on Nov. 6 and reopens on Dec. 5, possibly a bit earlier if the weather is good.

Golf Operations:

35. Golf revenue and rounds are down for October 2017 about $15,000 but we are only 352 rounds down compared to the same time last year.

36. The Properties Committee will be touring 3 of our golf courses tomorrow.

37. Our Turkey Trot Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 17.

38. Our popular Night Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 at Pebblebrook Golf Course. This is a nine-hole scramble.

Upcoming Events:

OCTOBER 2017

Every Saturday                                 CONCERT IN THE PARK!  7 pm, Beardsley Park.  Bring your own chair.  Concessions start at 5 pm and include brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, beverages, popcorn and ice cream.  This event is FREE!

Oct 28: The Newtones : Formerly known as the “Realtones”. This group has played for SCW audiences and always has a great reponse. This 5 piece band, The NewTones deliver a variety of songs that vary from up tempo favorites to slow dance ballads and cater to requests for all dance styles

Fri Oct 27                                           HALLOWEEN DANCE with the Jan Petri Band, 7 pm, Palm Ridge Rec Center.  Get ready for a fright-tastic evening with the rest of the ghosts, ghouls and goblins.  p.m. Don your spooky outfits and enjoy some groovy tunes with the The Jan Petrie Band. This Dance is SOLD OUT.  The Jan Petrie Band is a local favorite and offers Rock and Roll Music from the 50”s, 60”s and 70”s.

Sat Oct 28                                          RH JOHNSON CHARTERED CLUBS OPEN HOUSE…Join us on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 am to Noon for our RH Johnson Chartered Clubs Open House.

Come out and visit with the clubs that use this facility.  They will be located in the RHJ Courtyard and in their Club Rooms.  The Automobile Restoration Club (ARC) and the RV Club will have classic cars and RVs in the parking lot in a blocked off area in front near the entrance to the courtyard.  We will have the exercise and dance clubs performing on a stage.  You will have an opportunity to see the new pool and surrounding area from the courtyard.

Thu & Fri Nov 2 & 3                           FALL FEST! at Beardsley Park.  Show time is 7 p.m. for both nights. Gates open at 5 p.m. Cost is $20 per person for a ticket package to both nights or $12.50 for and individual show. Tickets are on sale at the R.H. Johnson Box Office, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., or online at suncitywest.com. Tickets are available to the public. Full concessions will be available and a menu will be presented at a further date.

Sat Nov 4                                            FALL ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW, 8 am – 2pm at the RH Johnson Recreation Center.   Please mark your calendars and enjoy the fun. It’s a great place to get your Christmas shopping done. Admission is free and there will be food available for purchase. We hope to see you there!
