Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – November 13, 2017

 

Facility Projects:

  1. Kuentz Tile Roof Felt Replacement and Parapet Wall Repairs are in progress and we expect this project to be completed with this project by the end of Nov.

 

  1. The Sports Pavilion Flat Roof Replacement Project is in progress and continues through Nov. 21.

 

  1. The Beardsley Agave Room Cabinet replacement was completed 11/8.

 

 

Facility Maintenance:

  1. Shasta was out to the R. H. Johnson Pool to make repairs to a small leak in the filtration system. They will be out here again today to recheck the repair to make sure everything is working properly.

 

  1. For some reason, the RHJ Pool fountains stopped working for what appeared to be lack of suction. We are not sure yet why this occurred.  The system was brought down and restarted this morning and the fountains are now working.

 

  1. We will be closing Beardsley Pool for one day in the next week or two to replace filter parts on two of the filters. We will post the closing date once it is scheduled.

 

  1. Southwest Doors came out to replace the doors at Beardsley that were not working properly. If anyone has problems with these doors they are to contact Russ right away so they can be addressed.

 

  1. Facility Maintenance personnel have completed scheduled work on all golf course drinking fountains with the exception of three at Grandview and they should be completed by the end of today.

 

 

Recreation:

  1. Our next “So You Think You Have Talent” is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Kuentz Courtyard on Nov. 14 featuring singer Glenn Dragish.

 

  1. Our next Jam Session is from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Kuentz Courtyard today, Nov. 13. Join us for two hours of entertainment where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the music!

 

  1. Join us Wednesday, Nov. 15 for Happy Hour at 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn at RHJ. It is free and open to SCW residents and their invited guests. Entertainment is provided by Boomerang and the Sunsations performing a wide variety of your favorites from the 60’s and 70’s. Coffee and ice will be provided.  You may BYOB, snacks and a chair as well!

 

  1. Santa Paws is coming to town! Bring your four-legged friends to the Small and Large Dog Parks at the R. H. Johnson Rec. Center on Thursday Nov. 16 for the Santa Paws photo opportunity.  The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Small Dog Park and from 10:30 a.m. to Noon at the Large Dog Park.  Bring you own camera and props.  Richard “Santa Paws” Pinkerton has posed as Santa with animals of all kinds while living in Oregon.  This will be Santa Paw’s first appearance in his new home in Sun City West.  We are also using this opportunity to collect cans of dog or cat food to donate to a local animal rescue shelter!  Hope to see you there!

 

  1. Our next Chartered Club Open House in scheduled at Palm Ridge on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to Noon. The Clubs that have rooms at Palm Ridge will be working so guests can see firsthand whey they actually do.  Pickleball will have Summit Hall B set up for guests to come in to check out and try the sport (wear gym shoes).  Computers West will be in their room as well as the Palo Verde and the Acacia Rooms.  Refreshments will be served.

 

  1. The King’s Carolers perform on Wed., Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn at R. H. Johnson. This event is free and open to Sun City West residents and their invited guests.  Free cookies and cocoa will be served.  Be sure to bring your own chairs.  The King’s Carolers are a highly trained professional singing group out of Arizona who will wow you and warm your hearts with your favorite Christmas songs and carols.  Join your friends and neighbors for this unique, uplifting holiday event.

 

Sports Pavilion:

  1. Sunday’s Special brought in $680.

 

  1. 42 attended NFL Sunday.

 

  1. Mike Rosman of the Grand Bowler’s League bowled a 300 game this weekend. Congratulations on your accomplishment Mike!

 

Library:

  1. Residents seemed to have a great time at the special Virtual Reality sessions offered last week including the special session for Veterans last Monday, Nov. 6. We are taking reservations for Fridays through the month of March 2018.

 

  1. On Wednesday, Nov. 15 Carol Strazer will present a second writing workshop, How to Publish at the R. H. Johnson Library. Strazer is a published author who lives in Sun City West and coordinates the Library Writer’s Group.

 

  1. The Friends of the Library recent Book Sale was held on Saturday, Nov. 11 in the Social Hall. This was one of the largest sales in recent memory.

 

General Services;

  1. We will be using the same vendor for online election services in March 2018 as we did for last year. Wanda Schnabel is this year’s Election Committee Chair.

 

  1. The President of TotalE Golf will be here this week to review software with staff.

 

  1. The deadline for the next Rec. Center News is Friday, Dec. 1. Please have all articles submitted by noon of that day.

 

  1. While we make preparations to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Sun City West, Sun Health is working with Del Webb Hospital on plans to celebrate the Hospital’s 30th Anniversary here in SCW. We will be meeting with them to see how we can work together on this.

 

  1. The 2017 Fall Semester TORCH Class graduates this Thursday. Congratulations to all for completing the class!

 

Environmental Services:

  1. Overseeding has been completed at Echo Mesa, Pebblebrook and Deer Valley golf courses and cart path restrictions will be lifted on Tuesday Nov. 14th. With the completion of these courses, as of 11/14 there are no cart path restrictions in place on any of our courses.

 

  1. Beardsley Park closed for overseeding last week and will reopen on Dec. 01. With the weather being as good as it has been we may be able to open the Park a bit earlier.  We will keep you posted.

 

Golf Operations:

  1. For the first 12 days in November, golf is up 200 rounds for the same period in November 2016 and about $11,000 up in revenue.

 

  1. We have a night putting Turkey Shoot tournament scheduled for Nov. 17 at Echo Mesa which is sold out. All couples entered receive a turkey which they can keep or donate to the local Food Bank.

 

  1. Our popular Night Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 at Pebblebrook Golf Course. This is a nine-hole scramble and is sold out.  There will a Door Prize Raffle with all proceeds going to Meals on Wheels here in SCW.

 

  1. There will be a Men’s Team, Round Robin Match Play Tournament December 16 & 17 at Deer Valley. This event has been sold out!

 

  1. A Green Team Event was held on Saturday which was successful and well attended.

 

Human Resources:

  1. Safety Coordinator Jim Heger attended a “Train the Trainer” Class on Fork Lift Operations so he in turn can train/retrain employees here at the Rec. Centers.

 

Management:

  1. Several Clubs have been given notice that they did not file their annual paperwork with the IRS. This is a club’s responsibility.  We have offered to help them out if needed.

Wed, Nov 15                                      Happy Hour is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, on the Great Lawn at R.H. Johnson, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd. It is free and open to Sun City West residents and their invited guests. The Great Lawn is the new outdoor venue near the R.H. Johnson pool. You may BYOB and snacks. Coffee and ice will be provided. Bring your own chairs. No pets are allowed, service animals only.

                                                            Nov 15 Boomerang and The Sunsations Drawn together by love for rock ‘n’ roll, Boomerang and The Sunsations cover a wide variety of ‘60s and ‘70s favorites. We rock the house with dance songs like “Land of 1000 Dances,” “Twist and Shout,” and “Mony Mony.” The ladies add harmony for girl-group songs like “Chains,” “Locomotion,” and “Da Doo Ron Ron.”

 

Thu Nov 16                                        SANTA PAWS IS COMING TO TOWN!  Bring your four-legged friend to the small and large dog parks at R.H. Johnson Rec Center, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Thursday, Nov. 16, for the Santa Paws photo opportunity. The event is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the small dog park and 10:30 a.m. to noon at the large dog park. It is free to Sun City West Residents. Richard “Santa Paws” Pinkerton has posed as Santa with animals of all kinds for more than 14 years while living in Oregon. This will be Santa Paws’ first appearance in his new home in Sun City West. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to take a photo of Santa Paws with your favorite furry friend. Sat Nov 18                                          CHARTER CLUB OPEN HOUSE-PALM RIDGE, 10 am – 12 noon.  Find out what fantastic clubs operate at Palm Ridge Recreation Center.  The clubs that have rooms will be working, so that you can see firsthand what they do. Pickleball will have the Summit Hall B set up for residents to come in, check it out and try the sport (wear gym shoes) to see what it’s all about.
