The Recreation Centers of Sun City West’s Sports Pavilion/Bowling Committee invites members to share their thoughts and ideas about a possible social gathering place for the community.
The proposal involves remodeling the shuffleboard room at the Sports Pavilion to accommodate a social gathering place that would include food and drinks. The idea is still in its infancy, and community input will be welcome during the Sports Pavilion/Bowling Committee’s next meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the Lecture Hall, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.
The proposal still has several hurdles to pass through, including the Budget and Finance Committee, Properties Committee and the 2020-21 budget process, so there will be ample opportunity for members to attend future meetings and provide additional input.
Great idea! I’ll attend!
its about time we are the only retirement community on earth that does not have a bar
Beardsley is already a space to consider for social gatherings. Could the Board consider making the Crooked Putter a more desirable restaurant. It’s a beautiful setting overlooking the golf course. It needs an upgrade.
You are right-on. We already have places to gather. The shufflboard room is really too small, are there any windows? I know a lot of retirement communities have large inviting lobbies and bar areas over looking the pool. Arizona Traditions is one. They aren’t stuck off the bowling alley. How about a separate entrance to the parking lot from the shuffleboard room or is there one already big enough to use safely. Glad we all have time to think this over and plan properly.
In contrast to the absurd claim above that SCW is the “only community on earth that does not have a bar,” I point out the 6 golf courses where one can get beer and wine, a 7th that also has a café serving food plus a full bar, and a bowling alley with a restaurant also serving a full bar menu. And that’s just the already heavily subsidized facilities we “own.” Add in two full service bars (also serving food) in Corte Bella, plus Fry’s beer and wine bar, and I count 11 places to get a drink in SCW.
Do we really need another? Absolutely not.
Debby yes we have the above places…
I have been to Corta Bella and like it, we don’t own that. I wish we had a place like that
here in SCW.
Before so much as one dollar is spent on this further duplication of facilities, I want to see an analysis of projected profitability. We should not have to subsidize yet another money-losing “attraction.
Come on, really. You think you need more then 11 places to get a drink? I have heard so many people complain about the driving around here but think another bar would be a good thing.
Why do we have to spend every dime we put in? Why can’t we save it for when something needs to be done. I believe in keeping things up and replacing if it is broken but how many bars do you need?
I really don’t think we need another cocktail lounge. After all keep in mind we have drive to the location and then drive home. How many can honestly say after a few drinks you can safely drive your vehicle home in the dark? How many of U that have moved in here in the last couple of yrs. realize how many bars we have had here in SCW, since SCW was 1st built in the early 80’s, and they went out of business for lack of customers.
The last thing that we need our dues money spent on is another bar that has to be subsidized by a dues increase. The liability connected with this is huge, and who really wants to gather for a drink to the tune of bowling pins flying through the air? We already have alcohol served at all seven of the golf courses, Memos, Crooked Putter, Rosie’s and Fry’s Wine Bar which should be enough for those who don’t want to drive a few blocks outside the walls for their beverage. I am 100% against this idea which has not been thoroughly researched regarding the associated liabilities.
