Beginning Jan. 29, the R.H. Johnson Great Lawn is host again to the Rec Centers’ Music on the Green Series!

Through the end of April, on select Wednesday evenings visit the RHJ Great Lawn for a free concert provided by some great musical acts.

These are free to attend, no ticket required, and each show begins at 6 p.m. Make sure to bring a lawn chair!

West of the Blues

They are an eclectic blues and rock band performing Chicago, London and Texas blues with a good deal of 60s classic rock. Performers include veterans Fred Dobelbower on bass; JR Lampley on drums; Eric Brown on vocals and harp; founder, Cameron Craig, on guitar; Plus newcomers Glenn Cummings on guitar, harp and vocals; and Walter Rowe on keys and vocals. The band dates from 2004 with about five years in Sun City West and the West Valley. They are one of the most original and authentic blues and rock bands in Arizona.

Dawson Acoustic

Dawson is a father-son country duo residing in Phoenix. They perform in various public venues as well as private parties. Dawson primarily plays classic and new country; covering artists such as Morgan Wallen, Merle Haggard, George Strait, and Cody Johnson to name a few. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, Gary has always had a love for classic country music. He started singing at a very early age and has been playing guitar since he was 28. In 2003, Gary auditioned for The Nashville Star regionals in Phoenix and finished in the top 5. He has played and filled in with bands in Phoenix since the early 90’s. Colton is 17 and has been playing guitar since he was 10. His greatest inspiration was Stevie Ray Vaughan. Originally a fan of the blues masters, he has turned his attention towards country music. Since March of 2022, he and his dad have created something very special, a family-based father-son country duo called Dawson.

Karaoke Club presents The Club Singers

Come join the Karaoke Club to celebrate their 25th anniversary! The Karaoke Club will present a special concert for Music on the Green to celebrate – The Club Singers. Let some of the best singers in the West Valley entertain you with songs from multiple genres. The Karaoke Club Singers – all club members – will feature (from right to left in photo): Mark Foster, Mary Lee, Carri Garvey, Gale Rogers, Joyce Bowlby, and Mike Linder

Still Above Ground

Still Above Ground is an energized rock ‘n’ roll band. The band features nine musicians who are mostly Sun City West residents. Still Above Ground recreates the music we all grew up with – late ’50s-’80s. The band is thrilled to create dance music that gets people off their chairs and onto the dance floor. The band has a huge following at various venues in and around Sun City West, Surprise, Grand, and Peoria. Ben Bolt

Ben Bolt is an experienced musician, specializing in acoustic arrangements of song favorites from the ’60s and ’70s to the present day. He is based in Phoenix from November through May, and Detroit from June through October.
