Sun City West Owner Members who want to make a difference in their community are encouraged to run for the Governing Board. Petitions are available now.
The Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board is comprised of nine Association Members who serve as the volunteer governing body in our community. The Board sets the policies under which our Association operates. Each year, three new members are elected to replace the outgoing volunteer Directors who have completed their three-year term.
Any resident Owner Member in good standing who is available on a year-round basis for participation in the business affairs of the Association, may become a candidate for election to the Governing Board.
Candidate packets including petition forms with the required “Affidavit of Circulator” on the reverse side of each signature page are available from the Executive Assistant in the Administrative Offices at the R.H. Johnson Rec Center (Building G), 19803 R. H. Johnson Blvd.
Candidate packets must be returned by 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6. They must include:
• Completed petition pages – which for each page should include signatures on one side and the “Affidavit of Circulator” on the reverse side. Signatures of 200 Owner Members in good standing are required (220 signatures are recommended in case some cannot be validated.)
• A type resume of not more than 500 words.
For more information, call Executive Assistant Karen Roepken at 623-544-6115.
The ByLaws of the Association were updated last March by the Governing Board to comply with Arizona state statutes which do not restrict candidates to be RESIDENT Owner Members to be a member of the Governing Board. Any Owner Member in good standing who otherwise meets the requirements is eligible to become a candidate for election to the Governing Board.
Every week in the Independent newspaper, I keep reading that it is becoming difficult to get residents interested in applying for the various board positions. One thing I see that may deter a resident from applying is the requirement of gathering the 200 signatures of residents in good standing.
I am interested in serving on the board or on a committee but, I am not going to go around and ask for signatures just to volunteer my time. If they do away with that requirement I sure you probably would get more candidates interested in serving.
Your correct. Collecting 200 signatures is a very difficult task.
