Sun City West Owner Members who want to make a difference in their community are encouraged to run for the Governing Board. Candidate packets will be available on Monday, Nov. 2, at the R.H. Johnson Rec Center Administrative Office (Building G3), 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
The Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board is comprised of nine Association Members who serve as the volunteer governing body in our community. The Board sets the policies under which our Association operates. Each year, three new members are elected to replace the outgoing volunteer Directors who have completed their three-year term.
Any resident Owner Member in good standing who is available on a year-round basis for participation in the Association’s business affairs, may become a candidate for election to the Governing Board.
Candidate packets including petition forms with the required “Affidavit of Circulator” on the reverse side of each signature page are available from the Executive Assistant in the Administrative Offices at the R.H. Johnson Rec Center (Building G3), 19803 R. H. Johnson Blvd.
Candidate packets must be returned by 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4. They must include:
- Completed petition pages – which for each page should include signatures on one side and the “Affidavit of Circulator” on the reverse side. Signatures of 200 Owner Members in good standing are required (220 signatures are recommended in case some cannot be validated.)
- A type resume of not more than 500 words.
Governing Board President George Kuchtyak is also available to speak with you and answer any questions you may have. His office hours are 9 to 11 a.m. every Monday at the Recreation Center Offices at 19803 N. RH Johnson Blvd. in Sun City West (Bldg. G3 — where Membership is housed). You can also contact George by phone at 623-229-2301 or via email at george.kuchtyak@suncitywest.com. For more information, call Executive Assistant Karen Roepken at 623-544-6115.
In order to have more people interested in submitting an application for the board you should drop the requirement for gathering signatures. Personally, that is a waste of time going out collecting signatures.
If they drop that requirement, I would be interested in applying to serve on the board.
Agreed. I don’t know 220 people in SCW. What is the purpose of the signatures? Wouldn’t three references from people that actually know the candidate be more effective?
Not in my lifetime. I refuse to go along with the herd and generate needed revenues by raising dues instead of more wisely investing and utilizing a portion of a greater reserve fund. Nonprofits are private businesses with tax exemptions and should seek profits wherever possible. I know – I profitably managed 7 of them over 40 years. Efforts to change the local mindset are useless.
Votes should not be a consideration…references should carry more weight. Living here year-round should not be necessary with video conferencing. I am on the board in Puerto Vallarta and I might be at my condo there 3 months out of the year, the rest of the time its rented out. I am a viable member of the board.
I would like to be a part of the governing board, however I leave in the summer. Being a year round residence should not be a requirement. Even if I’m away there is a thing called video conferencing. So when there is a meeting people can sit in by computer. Also if a vote is needed, guess what you can vote by computer as well. WOW! So why not think about that. I would love to run and serve my community.
