Sun City West Owner Members are encouraged to attend upcoming forums to meet and hear from the 10 candidates running in the March 31 Governing Board Election.
The first forum begins 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Lecture Hall, and will be a traditional format with candidates answering questions submitted by the audience. Seating in the Lecture Hall is limited. For members who cannot attend in person, questions may be submitted online in advance at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/March5Forum. Deadline to submit questions electronically is 3 p.m. Monday, March 3.
The forum will be livestreamed and members can tune in as it happens or watch it later. No questions will be taken online during the stream, and YouTube comments will be disabled.
An additional opportunity to hear from the candidates will be at the Meet and Greet, scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Palm Ridge Summit Hall A. Candidates will give short, introductory speeches, which will be recorded and made available later on YouTube. The rest of the form will be open-style chat with residents, who are encouraged to visit personally with each candidate to learn more about them.
All Sun City West Owner Members in good standing are eligible, and encouraged, to learn more about the candidates and vote in this election. Owners will vote for up to three of the 10 candidates. The top three will be seated on July 1 to three-year terms. The candidate who finishes fourth will be seated to a vacant one-year term.
Members may vote online via email if they have a valid email address on file with the Rec Centers by 3 p.m. Monday, March 17. As a reminder, only Owner Members in good standing may vote. Associates and tenants cannot vote, per the Bylaws.
Each voter must have their own email address on file to vote online. Members who voted in last year’s election, or who use the member portal, and whose email address has not changed, do not need to re-register. (If you receive the enews, it is not the same as being registered for voting.) To register or verify your email registration, send an email with your name, rec card number and preferred email address to vote@suncitywest.com by 3 p.m. Monday, March 17.
Voters who sign up before the deadline will be emailed a ballot on Thursday, March 20. Your online ballot must be cast by 3 p.m. Thursday, March 27. To help ensure your ballot does not get caught in spam, add elections@vote-now.com to your email address book or “safe senders” list or check your spam/junk folder if you do not see your ballot by end of day March 20.
Homebound voting also is available to our Owner Members who are unable to vote early by email, and who cannot vote in person on March 31. Call 623-544-6120 for information about homebound voting.
In-person voting will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the Library’s Data Resource Center. Park on the north side of the Library, as the main Library will be closed that day. Be sure to bring your rec card.
Candidate bios and videos, as well as additional information and dates about the Election, are posted online at suncitywest.com/2025election. The centerspread of the February Rec Center News also has the bios and dates.
The candidates are:
- Anne Becknell
- David Bennett
- Terry Burks
- John Chattin
- Sandra Forsey
- Dennis Hanzel
- Lou Mancuso

Please note that when casting your ballot, either online or on Election Day, the order of the candidates will be randomized and will change each time the ballot is opened. You may open and close your early ballot as many times as you want, with the candidate order changing each time, until you finish and cast the ballot. All early ballots must be cast by 3 p.m. Thursday, March 27.
