Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – May 15, 2017

Projects:

 

  1. L. McIntyre has completed the Library Kitchen Remodel. Plumbing was set on Friday, May 12.  There are three areas that need to be touched up around the outlets which will be taken care of on Tuesday.

 

  1. DFG Builders has completed the framing for the fencing on the new RH Johnson Tennis Court. Painting of the framework has been completed.  Chain link fencing will be installed on Tuesday.  Southwest Sports will start the court coatings on May 31.

 

  1. DFG Builders inspected the steel work that was to be installed on the RHJ Courtyard planters and refuse the material as he said there were defects that he would not accept. The fabricator has order new steel and expects to have it ready to install in two weeks.

 

  1. Contractors are in the process of walking the Library. Measuring for carpet and the areas that are to be painted. They are also walking movers through the project for the items that will need to be stored in a climate controlled environment while the work is being done at the Library.

 

  1. Contractors walked the Rip’n Sew Club Facility on Tuesday on Tuesday of last week and will submit proposals for counter top replacement.

 

  1. The Sign Package has been sent out to bidders for the remainder of the building signage to include the new sign for the Pickleball Courts.

 

  1. American Asphalt is scheduled to be here on May 16 and 17 to repair the damage to the Palm Ridge parking area where the golf cart and car fire occurred. They will also repair an area of the RH Johnson parking lot in Section III on May 16.

 

  1. ForeSite has completed the installation of Gunite at the R.H. Johnson Pool including the Spa. They will begin grading the area for the pool deck and landscape.  Work continues on the upper deck area behind the Model Railroad Club and in the lobby.

 

  1. Workers have been busy installing drywall in the lobby area of the R. H. Johnson Pool.

 

Sports Pavilion:

  1. Our Sunday Special brought in $181 in revenue and Tuesday’s Bowling Special brought in $102.

 

Recreation:

  1. Saturday’s Movie in the Park, Hidden Figures went off without a hitch until the lawn sprinklers came on at the very end and emptied out the Park more quickly than usual. Sorry!  The two movies that were previously cancelled due to weather issues “Jackie” and “Sully” will be shown this week on Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20 respectively. You are welcome to bring your own chairs.

 

  1. The next event is our Memorial Day Celebration on Saturday, May 28 at Palm Ridge. This event is free and open to City West residents only.  Two tickets are available per Rec. Card Holder.

 

Library:

  1. The Library Kitchenette Project has been completed.

 

  1. Work on the 2017 Summer Puzzle began last Wed. Our puzzlers continue to make good progress on this year’s selection.

 

  1. Library staff members have started packing in preparation for this summer’s painting and carpet installation.

 

Village Store:

  1. We continue working with the Bank on setting up the new hand held credit card chip readers so that they work properly for the next big sales event.

 

Environmental Services:

  1. We are on the tail end of Spring Aerification. Echo Mesa Golf course reopens tomorrow, May 16.  Deer Valley closes Thursday and reopens on Tuesday, May 30.

 

  1. Landscape Maintenance is taking measurements of the Lawn Bowl Courts this week.

 

Golf Operations:

  1. Revenue is up $4,000 for the first 13 days of May and down 500 rounds.

 

  1. We are working on our event schedule for next year.

 

  1. 20 sets of golf clubs were donated to us by residents to help support the green team and local high school teams. Anything left over will be sent to the First Tee of Phoenix that teaches local children values through golf.

 

  1. We will be looking at Beer pricing this week.

 

General Services:

  1. We have been keeping an eye on the Ransomware hacking that took place across the globe last week and the threat that it may continue this week.

 

  1. We will be attending a TORCH Meeting this week.

 

  1. We will be attending a Consortium Meeting with ONN (Our Neighborhood Network) this week.

 

  1. We will be installing and testing some computer software at the Data Resource Center that will allow us to restart the computers, wiping out cookies and the browser history.

 

Facility Maintenance:

  1. We have completed painting the exterior walls of the Men’s Club. We switched colors up a bit and it turned out very nice!

 

  1. We assisted HR & Safety in an informal OSHA inspection this past week which served as an educational opportunity for staff.

Sat May 28 at Palm Ridge                MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION, This concert is free and open to Sun City West residents only. Two tickets are available per rec card and are available now at the RH Johnson Box Office, 19803 RH Johnson Blvd. High Priority is a men’s barbershop quartet that won the AZ Seniors Quartet Championship of Barbershop Society in 2014, and placed second in an International Competition in 2015. A new foursome, including Ray Estes (tenor), Byron Bennett (Lead), Mark House (Baritone) and Dave Davenport (Bass) are enthusiastic about entertaining audiences all over the country. Simply A Cappella is an award-winning, all-female chorus based in Tempe. The chorus was founded in 2011 with 11 members and has grown vocally and in size under the direction of Director Cary Burns. Since its inception, the chorus has grown to 32 members and won first place for Small Chorus and fourth place overall in Sweet Adelines International regional competitions in 2014 and 2015. The group was thrilled to win first place again for Small Chorus in 2016.
