Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – May 01, 2017

Projects:

  1. Running Construction has completed the installation of sign lights at the Beardsley Meditation Garden. This completes the contract.

 

  1. KL McIntyre has completed the demolition of the existing Library kitchen. Electrical circuits have been completed along with framing, drywall repairs, texture and painting.  New cabinet installation will begin on May 1st or May 3rd.

 

  1. DFG Builders has completed the pour for the conversion of 3 pickleball courts and 1 platform tennis court to one full sized tennis court at the RH Johnson Facility. Tensioning of the cables was completed on Friday, April 28th.  Installation of fencing around the court will begin this week.

 

  1. DFG Builders installed the seat cap on the Adm Courtyard planters. The steel fabricator will now field verify measurements and schedule installation of the side panels.

 

Sports Pavilion:

  1. Our Sunday Special brought in $420 in revenue and Tuesday’s Bowling Special brought in $164. 67 VIP cards have been sold to date.

 

  1. Congratulations to Rich Matlich for winning the house tournament.

 

  1. Congratulation go out to Larry Tolar and Ed Nowak who bowled a 300 game. We now have 27 300 games bowled to date.

 

Recreation:

  1. Join us for our next So You Think You Have Talent in the Kuentz Courtyard on Tuesday, May 02 at 11:00 am. This is our last show for the season.  Special refreshments will be served.

 

  1. Join us for our Movie In The Park, Sat. May 6, at sunset. Bring your own chair.  This week’s feature presentation is SULLY.

 

Library:

  1. Friends of the Library Book sale is Sat May 6 in the Social Hall. 8 am – 2 pm.  Huge number of DVD’s & about 2,000 history books in addition to the usual wide variety of books.

 

  1. Work on the 2017 Summer puzzle begins on Wed at 9:30 am. At the RH Johnson Library.

 

  1. The 2017 Summer Reading Club also begins on Wed. The Club will continue to meet during the library closure.  The library closure begins the last week of July.  EBooks and digital audiobooks will continue to be available during the closure.

 

Village Store:

  1. The Village Store continues to be quite busy.

 

Environemntal Services:

  1. Pebblebrook is closes for Aerification tomorrow, Thursday, May 4 and reopen for play on Tuesday, May 9.

 

  1. Landscaping crew is finishing landscaping around the Palm Ridge Swimming Pool.

 

Golf Operations:

  1. Revenue is up $50,000 for the month of April over prior year.

 

  1. The PA program is done for the season. The call center is also closed for the season.

 

General Services:

  1. The deadline for the Rec. Center News is Friday, May 5, 2017. Please have all items for publication submitted no later than noon.

 

  1. The Financial page will feature some changes with additional dialogue in future editions of the Rec. Center News.

 

  1. Management training is scheduled to take place in May.

 

  1. VolunteerMatch.org is underway with several departments using it to pair up volunteers with volunteering opportunities.

 

Facility Maintenance:

  1. The ramp to the Tennis Center will be recoated when the new tennis court is painted.

 

  1. The water leak at RHJ has been traced to the indoor spa at RHJ. Russ & Larry will be getting bids on redoing the shell and jets.

 

Financial Services:

  1. The final Budget Forum is scheduled for Wed May 3, 5:30 pm in the Lecture Hall. Come and learn about the proposed budget for 2017/2018.

 

Human Resources:

  1. We are having a problem with folks parking in our parking lot and posting “FOR SALE” signs. This is not allowed.  A new sign informing people of this will be posted in the RHJ parking lot.  Violators will have their cars towed.

 

Management:

  1. We are just about complete with the auditing of chartered clubs’ financials for this year.

                                                                  May 6 – SULLY Sully, played by actor Tom Hanks, is a 2016 American biographical drama film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Todd Komarnicki, based on the autobiography “Highest Duty” by Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The film follows Sullenberger’s January 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River (the miracle on the Hudson), in which all 155 passengers and crew survived with only minor injuries, and the subsequent publicity and investigation. Rated PG- 13; biography/drama

Fri May 5 at Palm Ridge                  CINCO DE MAYO DANCE, 7 pm Join us for a fiesta with one of Sun City West’s favorite bands – Thaddeus Rose – at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Palm Ridge Recreation Center, 13800 Deer Valley Road. Tickets are $10 per person and are on sale online at suncitywest.com or at the R.H. Johnson Box Office, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd. The event is open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. We will have margarita machines (non-alcoholic), so don’t forget your tequila. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase, and guests may BYOB or BYOT (bring your own tequila). Thaddeus Rose is a vocalist/songwriter and performer extraordinaire, best known in Phoenix and the Valley as lead singer and founder of the Thaddeus Rose Band. For the past 20 years, Thaddeus and his band have mesmerized audiences as he “brings the house down” in many of the Valley’s best known hot spots. Most recently, Thaddeus and his band were awarded the 2016 “Best Cover Band” by radio-station KOOL FM, 94.5, recognizing the groups distinctive influence on the local music scene.

 

Sat May 28 at Palm Ridge                MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION, This concert is free and open to Sun City West residents only. Two tickets are available per rec card and are available now at the RH Johnson Box Office, 19803 RH Johnson Blvd. High Priority is a men’s barbershop quartet that won the AZ Seniors Quartet Championship of Barbershop Society in 2014, and placed second in an International Competition in 2015. A new foursome, including Ray Estes (tenor), Byron Bennett (Lead), Mark House (Baritone) and Dave Davenport (Bass) are enthusiastic about entertaining audiences all over the country. Simply A Cappella is an award-winning, all-female chorus based in Tempe. The chorus was founded in 2011 with 11 members and has grown vocally and in size under the direction of Director Cary Burns. Since its inception, the chorus has grown to 32 members and won first place for Small Chorus and fourth place overall in Sweet Adelines International regional competitions in 2014 and 2015. The group was thrilled to win first place again for Small Chorus in 2016.
