We are pleased to welcome our new Librarian, Tracy Skousen, who joined the Rec Centers on Dec. 5.
Skousen holds a master’s degree in library science from Arizona State University, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young University. She was born and raised in Arizona, having worked on a rural family farm in Hyder, Ariz. She now lives in Phoenix and comes to us from a small college library, where she worked for 10 years. “I’m happy to be here at the community’s library and look forward to learning more about your interests and seeing how I can best serve,” said Skousen. “I’m excited to meet new people, so come by and say hello!”
Skousen replaces retiring Director Jane Kauzlaric, who was at the library’s helm since 2011. “We will miss Jane and appreciate all she has done to move this library forward in its digital services, community programs and more,” said General Services Officer Katy O’Grady. “And we are excited to welcome Tracy and merge her ideas with our current services to best serve patrons.”
Welcome Tracy. I love getting the e-books from the library
Best to you Jane, you always have been most friendly and helpful to us. Tracy, good luck here in Sun City West.
Welcome, Tracy! I feel sure that you will enjoy the unique atmosphere of Sun City West. I do.
I am very disappointed about the very low priority for non-fiction books at the Sun City West Library. I have a large library of non-fiction books. Primarily history. Almost all are hardbound with dust jackets. I had written into my will to donate these books to the library. But last week one of the desk volunteers told me the library was not much interested in non-fiction since they only have a small room for non-fiction and it is full. I also asked if someone from the library would be interested in reviewing the library at my house which is five minutes from the library. She told me to submit a list of the books. As a PhD historian I found it extremely disappointing. If this is all true I will change my will and sell the library to a book seller in the area. I will not give them away to be sold for $1.00 a piece.
I suggest you contact the director of the library about your collection.
Also contact Friends of the Library about the value of your collection.

“A REAL LIFE DETECTIVE STORY ABOUT SEARCHING FOR BIRTHPARENTS”
A true story about the adoption of a baby boy in New York City
and the search which begins years later when he is an adult.
After discovering my son’s friend Ryan, is searching for his birthparents, I consent to help, however cannot promise success. Using my adventures in genealogy, I delve through phone books, write letters and search everything from the local library to the National Archives in Washington, D. C. Feeling somewhat defeated by the lack of information to go on, suddenly a random search on an internet search engine for Ryan’s birthmother’s name yields a surprising photograph of a possible family. Could this be the first of several leads in this journey?
I am a retired Registered Nurse who has been writing since I was eight years old. I have written for professional Nursing journals and continue to write poetry and short stories. My book is a mysterious true story about beginning a fascinating but uncertain and sometimes tearful journey with unexpected twists and turns in many directions. Readers’ comments about my book have been that it is “highly engaging”, “an emotional roller coaster” and “reads like a private diary” as well as it “captures the reader.”
