  1. The Opening of the pickleball courts converted to tennis courts took place this morning at 10:30 a.m.

Library:

  1. Just a reminder that the Library will be closed beginning Saturday July 22 for maintenance.

  1. All visiting young children and their families are invited to join us for Summer Story Time in the Library at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 7 through July 12. We had a nice turnout for our Story Time last Wednesday with nine children and 6 adults attending.  Different stories are read each week and are followed by a kid-friendly craft project.  All materials are provided.  Children not only get to keep their complete craft but also take home some fun library souvenirs.

  1. This year’s Summer Community Puzzle, Educa’s 18,000-piece Sistine Chapel, is a real challenge and all are invited to help. People may work at it for as much or as little time as they wish.  Work on this year’s puzzle continues.  Puzzlers are confident they will finish before the library closes for maintenance at the end of July.

  1. The IT Department and the Library will offer three Virtual Reality sessions on Friday, June 23. Residents may sign up at the Library.  This is ideal for those who are no longer as physically active as they once were.

Village Store:

  1. Sales continue at the Village Store as interested visitors come in to see what we have to offer.

  1. We were lucky enough to have two people inquire as to volunteer opportunities at the Village Store. They will make excellent volunteers!

General Services:

  1. We have new laptops for the Governing Board. They will be available today and they can call Diana S. or Frank for any one-on-one training.

  1. We are working with the Library to offer virtual reality classes for those who aren’t able to partake in the typical Rec. Centers events and activities due to mobility issues, or physical or visual constraints. Three classes will be held on Friday, June 23.  Due to the nature of the program, class sizes are limited to 10 participants per two-hour session.  Please sign up at the Library.

  1. We were contacted by Sun City Grand for information about our online election. We will be providing them information to assist in any way we can.

  1. Governing Board Training is set for Thursday, 6-15-17 in the Acacia Room. Key Staff have been invited.  We look forward to this team building and goal setting exercise.

  1. On Friday, June 16, we are co-sponsoring a Mild Cognitive Impairment Seminar with the Banner Sun Health Research Institute. The Community is invited to this free event at 9 a.m. in the Lecture Hall.  Edward Zamrini will present “Is this Alzheimer’s disease,” a discussion of the causes, treatments and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as what you can do to help end Alzheimer’s.  Following the presentation, five Clinical Trails staff will be on site to speak one-on-one with individuals interested in volunteering for clinical research at Banner Sun Health Research Institute.

Environmental Services:

  1. Stardust reopens for play tomorrow, 6-13-17. Pebblebrook closes on Thursday, June 15 and reopens on Tuesday, June 20.

  1. Grandview Golf Course closed down for summer maintenance on Monday, May 29 will reopen after fall overseeding on October 17.

  1. Landscape Maintenance is busy trimming palm trees at Stardust Golf Course and Pebblebrook Golf Course on Thursday.

  1. It will be necessary to take out another palm tree at the Palm Ridge Facility that was damaged as palm bores hollowed out a portion of the tree at the top. Bees were also found to be nesting there.  We will replace the tree with potted plants and flowers.

  1. A water leak was discovered at Beardsley and 128th which turned out to be one of our relief valves on an interconnecting water pipeline for SCW. We first thought it would be an expensive fix, having to tear the road up but later found that the valve was accessible through a manhole cover, eliminating much of the cost and making the fix a little simpler.

  1. Landscape Maintenance will be working on some Ball park projects this week.

  1. We will be sending project pictures to Dianna Wenners for recent work we’ve accomplished so they can be posted to our Face Book Page.

Golf Operations:

  1. So far for the month of June golf greens fees/cart fees are up over prior year by $10. With the closure of Grandview Golf Course for summer maintenance, it appears GV golfers moved to other courses during the shutdown or that number would have probably gone down.

  1. 71 rounds have been played against our Summer Golf Special which started June 1; 43 of those played at Deer Valley; Trail Ridge and Pebblebrook followed. It appears golfer feel this special is a better deal at Regulation courses as opposed to the executive courses.

Facility Maintenance:

  1. All doors at Beardsley Pool have been corrected and are in working order.

  1. The pool heater was down at Beardsley Pool this morning. Facility Maintenance was able to quickly replace a broken part in the circulation heater motor with a part from our stock and it is back up and running.

  1. The spa jets at Palm Ridge went down Friday due to a problem with a part involving the timer. We were able to make a temporary fix so the spa could be used over the weekend and completed the permanent fix this morning.

  1. We are discussing replacing the Dust Collector which we believe is the original equipment at the Wood Shop.

  1. We’ve found that some of the cast iron ventilation plumbing pipes were rotted out/cracked in the walls of the Grandview Pro Shop restroom. A smoke test was performed and came out of the walls indicating the damage.  This turns out to be the cause of the phantom odors at Grandview Pro Shop.  We will try to keep from having to rip up the flooring and keep any shutdowns time to a minimum while making repairs.

Financial Services:

  1. Membership continues working on preparations for the Total e (TEG) update. They will be sending out electronic billing this month.

  1. The May financials will be out and posted this week.

  1. The final B&F Meeting for this fiscal year is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, June 20.

  1. We are currently working on labor policies with Mountain States Employer’s Council based on voter approved Prop. 206.
