The Rec Centers reminds residents and visitors that the golf courses are private property, for the use of paid golfers. Dog walkers, bicycle riders and walkers are unauthorized and will be trespassed.
Although the Rec Centers does not like to take the step of trespassing people on its golf courses, this is a safety issue, particularly when non-golfers are visiting during golfing hours. In addition, it is a sanitary issue when people allow their pets to defecate on the courses. We are seeing an uptick in dog owners regularly visiting the courses and, even worse, not cleaning up after their pets.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has been notified that any unauthorized visitors to our properties may be trespassed. This can include fines and, with subsequent violations, arrests.
Please respect the Association’s properties and the safety and security of your friends and neighbors by utilizing the facilities for the reasons they were intended. The dog parks are designated for your furry friends, and we have designated bicycle and pedestrian paths. The golf courses are for paid golfers only.
Thank you for your cooperation.
There was an issue with the original post not showing comments. We had to recreate the post so the comments on that post have been added here. Thank you for your understanding.
Gerard Walsh – thank you and I agree….
Anne Johnsen – I see no reason that people other than paid golfers should not be able to enjoy the golf courses for walking, even with pets if they redo appropriate pick up. I don’t know how this could be a safety issue if done during non golf hours.
Liz Breller – I see no reason that people other than paid golfers should not be able to enjoy the golf courses for walking, even with pets if they redo appropriate pick up. I don’t know how this could be a safety issue if done during non golf hours.
Sandra Snider – Can we also address the frequent trespassing violation of golfers on private hoomeower property?? Isn’t respect for the meaning of trespassing a two-way street? Trespassing definition: golfers entering private homeowner property. Trespassing example: golfers climbing over walls to get balls on private homeowner property. Who can we contact to escalate these ongoing and frequent trespassing violations? Oh wait…..nobody, because this type of trespassing isn’t considered as important or offensive a violation.
Carl Ramsey – In reply to Liz Breller, We need a Sun City West Park. A large beautiful park with lots of trees, paths, picnic facilities, gathering areas, and areas to read a book or mediate in nature.
One where we can take our visiting families to enjoy nature and the beautiful winter weather. A park that allows dogs to be walked (of course you pick up after). A park that encourages runners, walkers and bicyclists.
Every other city in the world has understood that a Park is important to a community and have provided their residents with a park.
Instead we have ten (10) golf courses. This is great as long as we have a huge Sun City West Park also.
I encourage other Sun City West property owners to write the Governing Board asking them to provide Sun City West with a nice Park.
Until Sun City West gets a Park I suggest you use some of the neighboring community parks.. There are some nice ones.
Ones that reflect their understanding of providing that amenity for their residents.
Russ McComsey – In reply to Sandra Snider, If you are doing this at the golf courses, how about doing it at Beardsley Park. There are always dogs there at night. Thanks
Sheela George – I do not understand why we residents are not allowed to walk through the golf course path after hours when nobody is playing golf? I know that part of our recreation fee is being use to support the golf course. I came from IL, where during Winter time, the Malls are open very early, for residence to walk & exercise during early hours before the official opening. That is good a citizenship. When I bought the house few years back, I always walk through golf course for exercise. No objection at that time. Why are the rules change this time around? I feel this new rules are very self centered and not in the interest of the residence in the neighborhood. Thank you.
Carl Ramsey – In reply to Anne Johnsen, The monitor censors comments on this website in an apparent attempt to groom the Board Members. To hear only what the Management wants them to hear.
Rick – In reply to Sheela George.
This topic was addressed on the SCW radio ‘golf’ program a few moths ago, the restriction is due to insurance, liability, public safety and the litigious society we live in.
Barbara Scott – With people walking and running on the golf courses while the courses have so few golfers it may be time to re-think and remodel a course into a walking trail, exercise route for SCW residents. If golfers are on the decline it seems silly to bar all that outdoor space from residents.
Why not elaborate on what residents are saying we need?
Robert Christiansen – So, will there be patrols looking for coyotes to capture and arrest? They defecate on the golf course! Oh wait! Better arrest the geese….they def on the golf course. AND the ducks. Ooh! Don’t forget those nasty rabbits! Defecating all over the golf course. So, the dictatorship in charge of the golf courses, care nothing about the good citizens of Sun City West that pays their yearly rec fees which helps support and maintain the golf courses!. If those good citizens that don’t golf step foot on our golf course, we will punish them by arresting them and fining them. We even have the backing of the police force to nab those golf course walking criminals. We’ll teach them good citizen who pay every year to support and maintain not to step foot on the golf course!!
What a wonderful, friendly, place to live.
Beth Hamstra – As a golfer, I am very concerned when there are people walking on the golf course while I am playing. I wish we were all professionals and could contoll the tragetory of our ball, but we are not….and I fear hitting someone and causing great injury. As far as dog walking, we also have a dog but found that there are lots of places to walk you dog and pick up after them.
Does Sun City West need a park—we have Beardsley and it is a great place to go and play with the kids and the dog park at RH Johnson is also nice. Have you looked at the views from the park at RH? Take the path by the dog park and investigate that beautufl area.
Should we as golfers tresspass on you property…NO! That is drilled into us as golfers, but again we are not all aware and maybe it is time to stress this point again.
Should we allow walkers when the golf course is closed? I do not see an issue with that..of course during the summer the couse is open from 5AM to 9PM so am not sure when you would walk.
V L – In reply to Liz Breller.
Excuse me, but When your golf ball lands in a spot where a dog has pooped I consider this a big safety issue! Even if it was picked up it still leaves poop, thus E. coli.
And if a person Not golfing gets hit by a golf ball someone will try to sue and WE ALL will eventually pay the pipper for it.
V L – In reply to Sheela George.
This is not a rule change, you just were not caught.
Dogs pee and poop where golf balls land, we cannot always see poop on our golf ball and then spread poop all over us. It is a health risk.
Golfers pay fees to golf to pay for golf course expenses, walkers do not pay extra.
There are bike paths and Beardsley park for such things.
It is also a lawsuit risk to have non golfer’s in the course.

I have read the cc&r, the golf courses are part of common area, to be enjoyed by the members. As part of the rules, you must pay a fee to play golf. Yes, the golf courses are private property HOA, which we are all member of. As for safety, the ccr said we could be hit by a golf ball.
As long as we are not interfering with the golfer, we should be able access the golf courses. Per Az law, You can not trespass on HOA property. Please post where in the ccr and rules, we can not access common area.
As for the dog, owner should cleanup on all property.
Given that the shaded and green areas are in short supply, I think it would be appropriate for golfers to share the territory, especially in the evenings when it is not used by golfers. Agree that pet owners must pick up after. SCW is in short supply of nice, clean places to appreciate nature; please consider after hours use by non- golfers.
I moved to Sun City and I am astonished at the disrespect for others shown here. First off many of the dog owners feel an entitlement to have their dog poop all over people’s lawns and the golf courses. So you feel it is okay as long as you pick up your dog’s feces? Do you bring a cleaning agent with you to make sure you got everything? Who is going to check you cleaned it up so well? So a golfer is supposed to pick up a ball where your dog just pooped? And who invited you on other’s people’s property? What makes you all feel you are allowed to do what you want? There is a reason they made a saying “Curb your dog”. Walk your dog by the curb where no one is trailing it into their homes. If you feel it is healthy to leave dog poop remnants all over because you are too lazy to walk to a dog park then I could just imagine how clean your home’s are inside. I am sorry I moved here. I didn’t know I would be with a lower standard of people who have no respect for others. This is not just your world!
New to Arizona I clean after my dog an I allowed to run my dog
