Course Closures or delays for maintenance and weather
Text “scwgolf” to 555888 to subscribe to text messages alerting you when there is a course closure for maintenance or weather delays.
So when in doubt, please call the following number for the latest update:
WEATHER RELATED COURSE CONDITIONS HOTLINE: 623-544-6175
- The message is updated as conditions change (so you’ll find out if a two hour delay became a one hour delay for later tee times).
- You can hear information on more than one golf course during the same phone call by simply pressing different numbers:
- Pebblebrook = 1
- Trail Ridge = 2
- Deer Valley = 3
- Grandview = 4
- Echo Mesa = 5
- Stardust = 6
- Desert Trails = 7
Please note, due to the influx of calls during delays, you may experience a busy signal. Please be patient and keep trying to call any course. During October thru April, Monday thru Friday, you may reach the call center who will have the latest updates for all courses.
Our RAIN CHECK policy may be found here.
FROST occurs when temperatures are at approximately 38 degrees and below. Typically, at 38 degrees, it will cause a 1/2 hour delay and a 1/2 hour cart path only restriction; at 35 degrees, a 1 to 1-1/2 hour delay; at 34 degrees a 2 hour delay.
Several in our group tried to call the “frost” number today but thee was no answer. Why can’t this information be posted on the Web Portal?
This is all well and good, so long as the number is answered, which did not happen today, I and several other golfing friends called repeatedly today just before and after 0730 and the number just rang and rang and kept on ringing. Later I called the SD course and someone finally answered and said we had an hour delay. Several other guys just gave up and showed up at their normal tee time. This is not the first time this has happened.
I suggest you post the frost delays on the website and broadly publicize. The experience of not being able to reach the weather hot line on Wednesday was frustrating. I know a lot of people who would find that easy to use. It would reduce the logjam you experienced on Wednesday when you have several hundred trying to reach the weather hotline at once. Please don’t take this as a criticism but as intended a friendly suggestion. You all do a great job and it is appreciated.
Thanks for the comments gentlemen. We were in discussions with Golf Ops just yesterday about the very idea of posting delays on the website. It was mentioned that much like the Hole in One updates, Golf Ops can create a standing “weather” post and update it as frequently as needed when there are delays. We are working out the mechanisms of putting this into place. We appreciate you writing.
Excellent idea to post, you generate one post per period, not hundreds of texts or phone answers. The sooner the better.
I don’t think posting delays on your website is the solution. Just fix the phones. Our calls did not go unanswered because of over flooding the weather line, if so it should have just been busy, not ring without answer. This not a new problem. Nor the problem with the phone lines to Stardust. Keeping or getting the web current would be a super head ache for someone, including the golfers.
Hi Mr. Potts, thanks for writing. We understand your frustration with the weather delay hotline. Unfortunately our phone infrastructure is not designed to handle the huge influx of calls we get during frost delay days. The system we have is designed for daily business operations, and handles those very well, and in fact saves us thousands of dollars a year. However, it is not designed like a call center, where it can handle a huge number of calls all at once and appropriately route overflow calls. With the system we have, your calls do in fact go unanswered because the line is overloaded – our current system will only let a limited number of calls through at a time. The others will just ring and ring. It is not a short-coming in the system; it is just being used for something it was not intended for. The best solution is a very expensive one we would have to purchase. At this time, it is not budgeted. Keeping a web post updated during frost delays is an extra task for Golf Operations, but other than staff time, there is no expense. We are going to try this route first to see if golfers can get used to checking a website rather than calling in – instead going the route of adding equipment that will be costly. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted.
Having frost delays on the website would help reduce phone calls and I think you should talk to our local radio station, KSCW 103.1 FM about making a “public service announcement” starting at least 1/2 hour before the courses open for play.
Thanks Linda, we hope that utilizing the website for frost delays will help. We’ll keep the radio station in mind as well.
Brilliant Linda, and other listeners might benefit from this info?
Could you also let us know if the driving range is open or closed.
Nothing worse than going to the golf course early to warm up hitting golf balls.
Only to find out that the range is closed.
Thanks, works perfectly. Great job
I would recommend eliminating or significantly reducing the duration of any frost delay by watering the golf courses’s first few holes. Starting around 6:00 or 6:30 should give enough time to adequately water the first few holes until it warms up enough. Should also water the driving ranges and putting greens so they can be used for warming up. Think of all the revenue being lost. 50 people buy range balls $100 lost. One hours’ worth of tee times equates to about $1500 this time of year. It would be more difficult for shotgun starts but water tees and greens and have cart path restriction for duration of anticipated frost delay.
Hello Steve, we will pass your suggestion along to Environmental Services and Golf Ops.
I just tried to register at 555888 entered scwgolf and received the following message.
“The keyword your trying to use is not available on our short code 555888
Any suggestions?
My suggestion on calling the weather hotline for closures.
When we call TR golf course to see if their are any restrictions.
They say No Restrictions because of the rain the night before. BUT when we arrive at the course they tell us the driving range is closed because of rain the night before.
I asked the Pro Shop if they could include that information when someone calls in .
They said it was a good idea.
So far it hasn’t been put to use.
In the meantime we sit around for 30 to 45 minutes waiting for our tee time.
When you go on the site looking for clubs for sale.
And you hit the club you are interested in . Say a fairway wood. It doesn’t tell you if it is a 3 wd or 5 wd.
Man or woman.
What shaft it is.
What grip.
Hi Bart. For additional information on the clubs our pro shops have for sale, please call 623-544-6606 or email linda.boman@suncitywest.com.

Would like to get frost delay information
I tried to text scwgolf to 555888 and got a message saying “Sorry, this service is not available”
Thank you Rich for notifying us of the issue. We’ve passed it along to staff so they can take a look at it.
Hi Rich. The 555888 number is no longer in effect as laws regarding the use of short codes have changed. Please text scwgolf to 1-844-728-0158.
I did NOT get a text alert today (1/6/24) about a frost delay. I have always gotten them before! And I only got a notice when I tried to sign up again that “this service is no longer available” Can you please address this issue and get it fixed?
Thank you Kathy for notifying us of the issue. We’ve passed it along to staff so they can take a look at it.
