The Rec Centers are sad to announce that after 45 years, the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library will be showing their last Thursday Night Movie on June 26. The Friends made the difficult decision to end the series due to declining attendance and increasing difficulty in finding appropriate, licensed movies.
The Friends will continue to support the Library with books, DVDs and other materials through their book sales and Endowment Fund. The Rec Centers sincerely thanks the Friends for their continuing support!
Rec Center staff is looking at options to fill the void and provide continuing entertainment at the theatre. Please stay tuned for more information!
The Library movies are important because they offer a service that is low cost and accessible for Sun City West residents to enjoy an evening out of the home. This increases mobility and socialization among attendees.
The Recreation Centers must support this event that helps residents improve lifestyle in addition to other benefits.
Thank you for your input Diana. We agree! We are working on a plan to continue the films after the Friends’ series ends. Look for more details coming soon! In the meantime, we encourage members to stop by the Library and participate in some of the many other free events we have there, specifically designed to ensure socialization, involvement and improved lifestyle for all our residents.
