Recreation Centers of Sun City West owners will be voting for new Governing Board Directors, as well as some proposed Bylaw changes, in the March election.
Even though there are four open positions and four candidates, an election is required to determine who will fill the three, three-year terms, and who will fill the one-year vacancy. Additionally, the Governing Board is sending some proposed Bylaw changes to the members for a vote.
The four candidates are incumbents Sandra Forsey and Alan Schlemmer, and owner members Mike Kosanda and Ron Petrin. Biographical information, photos and videos from the candidates will be posted at suncitywest.com/2026election. On the ballot, voters will choose up to three candidates. The top three finishers will earn the three-year terms, and the fourth-place finisher will fill the one-year vacancy.
Owner members also will have an opportunity to vote on proposed Bylaw changes the Board is recommending to update language about online voting, and ensure the Bylaws are consistent with state law regarding absentee ballots.
The Governing Board also is recommending additional changes that would shorten the election cycle (to begin in January rather than November), in order to simplify the process and encourage more participation. At their Jan. 22 meeting, the Board will vote on whether to include those on March’s ballot. Information will be posted online as soon as it becomes available. Any resulting changes to the election cycle would not take place until the 2027 election.
All Sun City West owner members in good standing are eligible, and encouraged, to vote in the election, which will be held in March. Online voting runs March 19-26, and in-person voting will be March 30. Owner members who wish to vote online must have a valid email address on file with Member Services prior to 3 p.m. March 16.
All election details will be posted at suncitywest.com/2026election. Members are encouraged to bookmark the site and check back for updates as the election nears.

Why are other people other than owner members allowed to be on the governing board?
Joseph, only Owner Members may run for the Board, and only Owner Members may vote in the election.
If this is the case why are two candidates identified as owner members while two are not? Why the distinction? Please explain what is going on. Thanks.
Hi Bill. All the candidates are owner members. We were simply trying to distinguish between the two who were incumbents (and also owner members). Sorry for the confusion.
Is it too late to nominate?
Hi Tom. Candidate packets for those wanting to run for the Governing Board were due by Jan. 2.
I thought boardMembers had to be off the board for a year before running again. You reported two incumbent candidates
Hi Patricia. Yes, if a Director serves a full three-year term they must take a one-year hiatus if they want to run again. In this case, the two incumbents are filling one-year vacancies on the Board due to earlier director resignations. So they may now run for their own full three-year term.
We didn’t but here in SCW, only to have a multi senior care housing unit across the street. We have 7-11 cars parked on the street every day. How is this possible?
Hello Michael. Maricopa County Codes and the Federal Fair Housing Act allow for senior care group homes in Sun City West and other communities across the U.S. Information on the county regulations can be found here: https://maricopa.municipal.codes/MCC/18.120.240. Sun City West’s CC&Rs cannot prevent these homes.
