Poetry Contest
During the month of April, celebrate National Poetry Month and the 250th year celebration of the United States of America by sharing your best original poem with the theme: America the Beautiful.
How it Works
One original entry per person. (Poems must be the original, unpublished work of the author.)
Email a copy to SCWLibrary@suncitywest.com by April 30, 2026.
Make sure your entry contains your name, rec card number, and contact information (email and/or phone number).
Winners will be awarded across different categories. Winning poems will be posted on the library webpage and catalog.
Categories:
– Free verse
– Rhyming poetry
– Haiku
– Limerick
– Acrostic
Contest entries must be at least 3, but cannot exceed 26 lines (including stanza breaks). Any submission that exceeds these limits will be automatically disqualified. The poem title does not count as a line.
Content Restrictions: Vulgarity, profanity, or offensive material will not be accepted.
Submissions open April 1-30, 2026
The copyright of each poem remains with the author. However, authors of the poems, by entering the competition, grant The Recreation Centers of Sun City West the right in perpetuity to publish and/or broadcast their poem.
