Worried about taking your pet out into nature? Or even into your backyard? Ranger Kevin is happy to help you sort out fact from fiction and truth from myth. We’ll be looking at some of the many animals that call the Sonoran Desert home, and several in particular that might pose a threat to your pets: Sonoran Desert toads, venomous snakes, javelinas, coyotes and scorpions. We’ll go over what you can do to help prevent potential confrontations, and what to do if your pet is involved in an unfortunate encounter with wildlife.
Ranger Kevin has been teaching people about the Sonoran Desert for many years. Prior to joining Maricopa County, he worked for both the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden as an educator. Ranger Kevin is also a member of the Maricopa County chapter of Master Naturalists, a Certified Interpretive Guide, and holds a Masters Degree in Secondary Education. After surviving careers as a banking professional, a letter carrier, and a high school English teacher, he has found his niche in nature. When not on the trail, he enjoys movies, music, travel and continuous learning.
