The Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library is in need of volunteers to help transport books from the Library to the storage area where they are kept prior to book sales in the R.H. Johnson Social Hall.
Volunteers are asked to load full crates (the size of a milk crate) to their vehicles, transport them to the book storage shed behind the Social Hall, and unload them into the shed. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stack crates seven high is required.
Volunteers must have their own vehicle to transport the books. The task takes about 1 to 1.5 hours per day; depending on the size of the vehicle used. There are currently openings for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The volunteer will pick one of those days and must commit to transporting on that day each week. The transporting can be done anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the selected day.
The Friends’ book sales generate a significant amount of money through their book sales. Proceeds go towards purchasing books, DVDs, books on CD and other materials for the R.H. Johnson Library, so all residents benefit from these sales. However, the sales can’t happen without the important work of our volunteers, including those who transport the books from the Library to the storage area.
The Library (13801 W. Meeker Blvd.) and the Social Hall (19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd.) are located within the same campus at R.H. Johnson Rec Center. Residents interested in helping the community through this Book Transport Volunteer opportunity should stop by the R.H. Johnson Library and ask for a volunteer application. Your time and assistance are very much appreciated!
