Echo Mesa Irrigation & Turf Reduction Project
In the spring of 2025, the Rec Centers’ Echo Mesa Golf Course will be undergoing a replacement of the course’s original irrigation system, as well as turf reduction to meet the state of Arizona’s water mandate. To help keep members informed on the progress of this project, the Rec Centers have created this page to share important dates and previews of proposed plans for the turf reduction. Members are recommended to bookmark this page so it can easily be accessed during the duration of this project.
Project Timeline
- May 2024 – Governing Board budget approval for FY 2024/25
- July 2024 – Funds available for project
- September 2024 – Install new pump station
- October 2024 – Overseeding
- February 2025 – Start staging pipe material on site
- March 2025 – Stage irrigation material on site
- April 2025 – Proposed project start date of April 7, beginning on the back nine
- August 2025 – Projected completion date of Aug. 29
- September 2025 – Overseeding
- October 2025 – Projected reopening of course on Oct. 21

Looking into the future
After the completion of the Echo Mesa project in 2025, the Rec Centers have two more courses set for irrigation projects.
- 2026 – Stardust Irrigation Project Phase I
- 2027 – Stardust Irrigation Project Phase II
- 2028 – Pebblebrook Irrigation Project Phase I

Towards the end of July, staff has begun to mark boundaries around the course for where the desert landscaping of this project will begin. View the photo on this page for an example.
