Facility Projects: (Karl)

  1. Palm Ridge Stained Glass/Computers West Club Renovation is in progress – Stained Glass Room Update –  Above Ceiling Inspections, Final Trim, Smoke Venting Units, Ceiling Panels, and Workstations are in progress.  We expect this project to be completed 12/31/19.   Computers West Room – Lighting, Above Ceiling Inspections, Flooring, and Miscellaneous Trim are all in progress.  Overall, the Project is awaiting confirmation of Countertop installation dates by Sub-contractor critical to finagling Project work.  Tentative completion of this project has been extended to 1-10-19.

 

  1. Kuentz Woodshop Parapet Walls – Roofing Southwest begins parapet siding replacement project 12/10/19 pending the weather.

 

  1. Metal Shop Storage Yard Expansion Project (Club Funded): Tikal Fence is scheduled to begin the project as early as 12/12/19, otherwise 12-16-19 after completion of other contracted work they have scheduled with others.  Metal Shop leadership is aware of material delivery and work zone due to their 12/14/19 craft fair in the same parking lot.

 

Facility Maintenance:  (Russ)
  1. Facility Maintenance Staff continues working on completing Work Orders and several other repair projects.

 

Recreation:  (David)
  1. We are setting up an Open House for Reflective Services Massage Therapy on January 7, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at the R. H. Johnson Pool. Reflective Services Staff will provide demonstrations and poolside massages to advertise some of the services they provide.

 

  1. Staff is planning to walk all eight Lizard Acres outdoor walking trails in an effort to update the Walking Trail Guide.

 

  1. Since so many of our facilities have been upgraded and changes have been made, we will be reviewing website pictures and update them as needed.

 

Recreation Activities:  (Riley)

  1. We currently have 51 open CC&R Cases on the books. One of our worst-case HUD houses is being taken care of along with two properties that have hoarding issues. We are making headway on some of these properties.

 

  1. We are working with the Chartered Clubs Liaison for Friends of the Library to create an on-line survey in an effort to get information on how best to increase club membership.

 

  1. We will be meeting this week with the new Agriculture Club Board to go over some issues.

 

Village Store:
  1. November sales for 2019 have been the highest recorded. The number is up over 1% of sales from last year.

 

  1. Rip’nSew and the Beaders Clubs had a sale at Beardsley this past Saturday and did very well.

 

  1. Village Store Manager Katie Van Leuven will be doing a radio Interview on KSCW 103.1 to talk about the Store and the upcoming Christmas Season.

 

Sports Pavilion:
  1. 213 sports fans attended our Sunday NFL Event.

 

  1. League Play was up 28%. Open Play was flat. Refreshment Sales were up 26% and Total Revenue was up 27%.

 

  1. Our Sunday Special brought in $890.

 

  1. 116 Bowlers have assigned up for the CBE Tournament scheduled for Dec. 28 and 29.

 

  1. We will be hosting a Friday Sweeper this month for 50/60 Bowlers

 

General Services:
  1. Library Director Jane Kauzlaric is retiring 12-14-19. Her replacement, Tracy Skousen, started her new job last week.  Be sure to come by the Library to say “Hi” and wish her well!

 

  1. We have another meeting with the Diamond Club in Peoria to see if there are any partnership opportunities for us.

 

  1. Through the SCW Consortium and as Community Partners we are sponsoring Happy, Healthy Holiday, an Interactive Wellness Event on Friday, December 13 from 9 a.m. until Noon in the Sun City West Foundation Webb Room. There will be information  on Acupuncture Education, Blood Pressure Checks, Fire Prevention and many Holiday Activities to participate in.  Space is limited.  To register, visit SunHealthWellness.org and click on ‘Healthy Living Classes” or call (623) 207-1703.

 

  1. To register for the upcoming governing Board Election, send an email to vote@suncitywest.com and include your name, Owner-Member Card number and the email address you will be using to vote. You will receive an auto response to let you know you have been registered.

 

  1. An interesting statistic: Last week confirmed cases of Flu in Arizona were up 368% over last year and 481% overall.  Please remember to practice good hygiene, wash your hands often, cover coughs and try to keep from touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

 

RHJ Library:
  1. The new Library Director Tracy Skousen was introduced to staff. Tracy comes to us from the Brookline College Library in Phoenix where she was the Director for the last ten years.

 

  1. The Friends of the R. H. Johnson Library will hold a membership meeting during their regular monthly board meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 12 in the library. All members are welcome to attend.

 

  1. Be sure to add the next Friends of the Library Book Sale to your calendar. It is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the R.H. Johnson Social Hall.

 

Financial Services:
  1. We are working on the Financials for the month to have them ready for the next B&F Committee Meeting.

 

  1. We continue to work with cell tower companies on renegotiating our Agreements.

 

  1. We are working with Chase Bank to move some of our funds out of lower yield money market accounts and putting them into higher yield government funded accounts.

 

  1. We have scheduled a Reserve Analysis Presentation at the Governing Board Workshop in mid-January 2020.

 

Membership:
  1. For the first 6 days of December 2019 we had 31 APFs with 8 refunds for a total of 23 APF Fees. Total number for the month of  November in 2018 was 85.

 

  1. Our statements went out early on Friday, Dec. 6. A thank you goes out to the Accounting Department.  The statements themselves are still not printing the way we would like.  We are working with our IT Department and Total E Integrated on this.

 

Events Planning:
  1. Tickets for “Spring Fest”, March 14 through March 16 are SOLD OUT

 

  1. Save the date 3-7-20 for our “BBQ Taste of Paradise Challenge” which is a Southwest National BBQ Competition.  To date we have about 33 competitors, many committed sponsorships, Woodshop/Metal Club in-kind sponsors for trophies and awards.    This event takes place in the R.H. Johnson Parking Lot on March 7, 2020.  The RHJ parking lot will be blocked off beginning Thursday 3-05-19 through Sunday 03-08-19.

 

  1. Tickets are on sale at the Box Office for Breakfast with Santa. This event is scheduled for Dec. 21, 8:30 a.m. at Beardsley.

 

  1. Tickets are still available now for our Holiday Show, Uptown Angels & MacDougal Street West scheduled for Dec. 11 at Palm Ridge, 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for both the 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. shows.

 

  1. Our Jazzy Little Christmas Event is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5:00 p.m. on the RHJ Great Lawn. Cookies and refreshments will be available for purchase  This concert is sponsored by the SCW Broadcast Club.  Tickets are not required for this event.

 

  1. Tickets for our New Year’s Eve Dance scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 31 are available and on sale at our Box Office.

 

  1. Our 5K Run tickets are available Monday, December 9, 2019. The date of the 5K is Saturday, March 28, 2020.  Visit suncitywest.com and click on Annual 5K Registration listed under Announcements.  Proceeds from this event will go to Patriotic Service Dog Foundation.

 

Human Resources:
  1. We received 40 applications for the HR Manager’s position for consideration.

 

  1. Just a reminder that Arizona State minimum wage increase goes up to $12 in January 2020.

 

Golf Operations:
  1. For the first 8 days of December, rounds are up 19% and revenue is up 17% over prior year. We have received lots of comments as to the great condition of our golf courses.

 

  1. Last weekend, Deer Valley Golf Course hosted the Coors Light Challenge II Round Robin Match Play Event. This was a two-man, best ball with 96 players.  There were eight flights of 6 teams to play a total of five nine-hole matches during the two-day Event.  This was a great Tournament and a big THANK YOU! goes out to all the golfers, our sponsors and to the Deer Valley Staff for hosting such a great event!

 

  1. The Golf Operations Department is becoming more involved in the Green Team lessons. Nibby Musso volunteered to teach this past Saturday at no charge for the Green Team – wood and Hybrids.

 

  1. Night Golf is being played on Friday, December 20 at Pebblebrook Golf Course. We have over 100 players signed up to play and it will be a great night as long as the weather cooperates.  New technology in golf equipment will be the big talk of this event.  New glow balls and hole lights will really make this a fun event.

 

  1. Rich Brooks maintains and services all 138 golf carts in our fleet and works hard to keep them in good operating order. Rich does a great job doing everything from repairs to preventive maintenance.

 

Environmental Services:
  1. Golf Course Maintenance
  • Rainfall totals over the weekend were ¼” at Trail Ridge Golf Course and a ½” at Echo Mesa. There were no cart path restrictions in place.

 

  • We will be top dressing and rolling the grass at Trail Ridge where the grass came in too thick or too thin due to the seed being washed out in an earlier rainstorm.
