Golf lessons, fittings and club repairs in Sun City West will move to in-house staff this February as the Recreation Centers looks to realign some of its golf-related revenue sources.

The Rec Centers’ on-staff pros will begin offering lessons and club fitting services as of Feb. 1 as the contract with Reid/West Golf Academies has been terminated. Reid/West will have two months to ensure all customers are able to complete their contracted services at Sun City West.

“This move is intended to refocus our services on our local residents as we have in-house PGA professionals who can offer lessons and fitting services. Our in-house staff members know our residents and are excited for this opportunity,” said Golf Ops Manager Pat O’Hara. “We also will be able to manage our golf equipment and inventory in a more efficient way to benefit residents and our bottom line.”

Club repair and fitting, along with specialized instruction, will continue to be offered through Dave Arend, a well-known provider at Grandview whose services have been retained by the Rec Centers.

Anyone with open lessons should contact Reid/West to arrange for completion of those packages. Lesson packages and prices offered by the Rec Centers will be announced in the near future. After Feb. 1, residents and visitors may call 623-544-6577 for lessons, fittings and club services.

The decision to terminate the existing contract with the Reid/West Academy was an organizational business decision based on financial measures and new strategies to improve the overall golf course operational picture. The decision was made through financial analysis provided by both Reid/West as well as the Recreation Centers of Sun City Wests financial analysts, golf operations staff and general management team. Residents are invited to chat with Golf Operations Manager Pat O’Hara or General Manager Bill Schwind if they have specific comments or questions.
