Sun City West Foundation’s Find Your Ride Program to Host RideChoice Application Workshop
Sun City West Foundation’s Find Your Ride Program will host a free RideChoice Application Workshop on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sun City West Foundation.
The workshop is designed to help eligible residents better understand the Valley Metro RideChoice program while providing step-by-step guidance throughout the application process.
Many residents qualify for transportation assistance but have questions about eligibility requirements, required documentation, or the application process. This workshop offers an opportunity to receive personalized assistance, ask questions, and gain confidence in navigating the process.
After attending the workshop, eligible applicants can schedule their next-step assessment with the City of Surprise rather than at the Valley Metro Mobility Center.
Whether you’re applying for yourself or assisting a family member or loved one, the workshop aims to make the application process easier and help connect residents with valuable transportation resources that support independent living.

Body Cameras
The Posse uses body cameras as a way to promote safety for both officers and the community. These cameras act like a neutral observer, recording interactions and helping ensure that everyone is accountable for their actions. By having a recorded record, body cams can de-escalate tense situations because everyone knows that there’s an objective record of what happened. This transparency can build trust within the community and also provide valuable evidence if there’s a dispute about an encounter. Overall, it’s a safety measure that benefits everyone involved by promoting clarity and accountability.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Stay Safe in Summer Heat
With summer temperatures placing heavy demands on air conditioning systems, the Community Fund of Sun City West reminds residents that confidential help may be available for unexpected repair or replacement costs.
For older adults and residents living on fixed incomes, a broken air conditioner can quickly become a serious health and safety concern. The Community Fund provides temporary financial assistance to eligible, low-income Sun City West residents facing urgent needs.
“No one should have to choose between staying cool and paying for food, medicine or utilities,” said a Community Fund spokesperson. “Our mission is to provide a financial safety net when unexpected expenses threaten our neighbors’ well-being.”
Residents needing help should call the Community Fund hotline at 623-546-1122. Calls will be returned promptly and handled confidentially.

It came to my attention over the 4th of July weekend, one of the reasons why the OHOA is so important to all SCW residents but especially those living in homeowner associations is the fact the OHOA keeps our Boards aware of Federal and State statutes that must be followed in all AZ HOAs.
I had phone calls from relatives in several states that also live in HOAs, who were in disbelief over the California HOA that banned their residents from flying the American Flag over the 4th of July, during the recent Federal Holiday. Federal law, which supersedes both state and individual HOA CC&Rs, is quite clear that an HOA may not adopt a policy or enforce any policy, or enter into any agreement that would restrict or prevent a member of the association from displaying the flag of the United States on residential property within the association. This Act may be cited as the ‘Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005.
However, an HOA may place restrictions as to location placement of the flag and require it to be lit at night if left flying and it may not permit it to be flown upside down.
When I moved to Arizona years ago, only five flags including the American were allowed to be flown. The past several years, the AZ Legislature passed laws that allow more flags to be flown in AZ.
