Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – August 7, 2017

 

 

Projects:

  1. Palm Ridge Summit Hall flooring screen and seal was completed on 8/1/17 and will be ready for use on 8/5/17.

 

  1. The Library Paint and Carpet Project Phase 2 of 3 is complete. Phase 3 begins today, 8/7/17

 

  1. The R. H. Johnson Tennis masterplan; Dig Studios applied for the permit and plans were submitted to Maricopa County for review. This will take approximately 2 – 3 weeks.

 

  1. ARC Paint Booth Plans were completed and submitted to vendors for bid. Costing will be completed prior to submitting plans to the County.

 

  1. The Desert Trails Remodel Project was awarded to Running Construction on 8/4/17. We expect this project to be completed and the Pro Shop reopened on 10/17/17.

 

  1. The Beardsley Arts and Crafts Parking Lot repairs and seal & stripe have been awarded to American Asphalt on 8/3/17. This parking lot will be closed for three days during the week of 8/14/17.  We will provide more detail prior to the starting of this project.

 

  1. Golf Course signage was submitted to Bootz and Duke Signs for design change as well as engineering and variance work on the signs.

 

  1. Archi-CAD is working on the Beardsley Park Restroom Expansion Project FY18-19 Budget plans.

 

  1. Archi-Cad Architects is working on plans for the Palm Ridge Summit Hall Dressing Room Expansion Project.

 

Facility Maintenance:

  1. The bids are out to repair the storm damage to the Beardsley Gazebo but many firms will not bid due to the steel material used in the roof. We may have to go with another material if we find we cannot get someone to do the job.

 

  1. We’ve submitted the paperwork for the RH Johnson indoor spa permit.

 

  1. The new Beardsley doors have been ordered and will take approximately 3 – 4 weeks for delivery. We also ordered two more ADA openers so all doors will be ADA accessible.

 

  1. Facility Maintenance employees are doing some prep work on Desert Trails Pro Shop prior to the remodel project starting.

 

  1. All exterior painting on the RH Johnson Complex is completed.

 

  1. We are attempting to locate an underground water leak at the Grandview Pro Shop between the driving range and the Pro Shop.

 

 

Sports Pavilion:

  1. The Sports Pavilion continues to be closed for Summer Maintenance and reopens on Monday, August 14.

 

Recreation:

  1. Our Summer Series events continue on Monday, August 14 and Tuesday, August 15 featuring the Dry Heat Band at 7 p.m. at the Stardust Theater. Some tickets are still available at $10 per person and can be purchased online at suncitywest.com or at the R. H. Johnson Box office from 8 a.m.to 3 p.m.

 

  1. Tickets for the Sinatra Tribute on August 23rd have been sold out.

 

  1. We will be holding a staff meeting today regarding the RHJ Pool Grand Opening on 9/16/17.

 

  1. The new pool at RHJ is now filled with water and looks great!. Vendors are currently working on the pool fencing and putting up the canopies.

 

Library:

  1. The library carpet and paint project is proceeding nicely and is currently on schedule. The Data Resource Center of the Library will reopen for residents tomorrow, August 8 but the Library itself remains closed until all of the remaining work has been completed.  Our outlet at the Stampede Meeting Room continues to be used by a steady number of people.

 

  1. IT installed the “Cybrarian” print management software in the Data Resource Center. This new software manages print jobs, time usage, and waiting queues.  It is fully explained in the September issue of the Rec. Center News.  Cybrarian eliminates wasted paper in the form of unclaimed, duplicate, or excessive prints.  Then, at the end of a patron’s session, Cybrarian closes any open programs and removes all cookies, history, and passwords so that the computer desktop is consistent for all patrons.

 

  1. The Friends of the Library report that their regular August Book Sale held last Saturday was very successful.

 

 

Financial Services:

  1. Our Annual Financial Audit continues this week, however the auditors have obtained the information they needed and will be performing the audit remotely for most of this week.

 

  1. The Accounting Office will be working on the July Month End Report this week.

 

General Services:

  1. Virtual Reality demonstrations moved to Palm Ridge and are scheduled for 8/11 and 8/18. There are 25 people on the waiting list for this.

 

  1. Michael Melissa from the Library Data Resource Center will be moving to the IT Server Room and Diana Starbuck will be moving to the DRC Room beginning today, 8/7.

 

  1. The deadline for the September Rec. Center News was August 4. The September issue will include a section dedicated to the R. H. Johnson Pool Project.

 

  1. The Water Presentation to the Rotary last week was well received.

 

Village Store:

  1. The Village Store is now closed and will reopen on Tuesday, 9/5/17. During the closure we are doing some housekeeping and inventorying of items.  Carpets are scheduled to be cleaned this Friday.

 

  1. July sales for this year came in better than last year.

 

Environmental Services:

  1. Echo Mesa reopens tomorrow, Tuesday, 8/8.

 

  1. Deer Valley Golf Course closes on 8/10/17 and reopens for play on 8/15. This is the last course closed for aerification this year before we go into fall overseeding on 9/28/17.

 

  1. Reminder: Grandview Golf Course closed down for summer maintenance on Monday, May 29 and will reopen after fall overseeding on October 17.  The Bunker Project remains on schedule.  The greenside bunkers are complete and we are working on the fairway bunkers. First sod delivery is scheduled for Wednesday, 8/9/17 followed by another delivery on Thursday.  Completion date for the Bunker Project is 9/8/17.

 

  1. We are working on the landscaping at the R. H. Johnson Pool Entrance. We will be digging holes for the trees on Wednesday and planting trees on Thursday.  We also have large planters coming in for this entrance on 8/16/17.

 

Golf Operations:

  1. Revenue is about even compared to last year’s numbers.

 

  1. Golf Operations has finalized eight Special Events to be held between September 2017 and April 2018. Watch for more details!

 

Human Resources:

  1. Denise distributed the Paid Sick Leave Policy which complies with new federal law to all staff managers and asked them to review and provide comments.

 

Management:

  1. All storm damage loss information has been turned in to Earl who will be providing this information to our insurance company.

Mon & Tue Aug 14 & 15                              THE DRY HEAT BAND, 7 pm at the Stardust Theater, The Dry Heat Band is from the Northwest Valley area of Phoenix and performs a variety of music from western, country, folk, bluegrass, old standards and gospel. They style their performances to the entertainment needs of the audience, using a bit of humor, some interaction and audience participation.  Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased online at suncitywest.com or at the RH Johnson Box Office 8 am – 3pm.

Look for the soft opening of the RH Johnson Swim and Fitness Complex on August 28th.

The GRAND OPENING is scheduled for the weekend of Sept 16th.
