Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – April 17, 2017

Projects:

1. Accel Electric has the sign lighting on order for the two signs at the Village Store entry and the south side of the Sports Pavilion. Installation schedule pending.

2. L. McIntyre was awarded the Library Kitchen Remodel project. As soon as a lead time is determined for the new cabinets, a schedule will be drafted for the work to begin.

3. DFG Builders has completed the demolition on the existing fencing around the three Pickle Ball courts and one Platform Tennis court. Today they will begin prepping the surface and setting forms for the post-tension overlay converting those courts into one full-sized tennis court.

4. DFG Builders has installed the seat cap on the Admin. Courtyard planters. The steel fabricator will now field verify measurements and schedule the installation of the side panels.

Sports Pavilion:

5. Our Sunday Special (Easter weekend) brought in $130 in revenue and Tuesday’s Bowling Special brought in $160.

6. We had two more perfect 300 games bowled last week! Congratulations go out to Gary McCoy of the Classic League.  Gary not only bowled a 300 game but had an 825 for three games.  Gregg Waldon of the Pioneer League not only bowled another 300 game but it was his 3^rd one of the year and he has a grand total of 20 300 games.

Recreation:

7. It was perfect weather and a perfect day for our Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 15. Over 1,000 people attended.  We received lots of “thank yous” and compliments from the people attending this event.

8. Our next Jam Session is scheduled for Monday, April 24 from 1 – 3 pm in the Kuentz Courtyard. Join us for two hours of entertainment.

9. Join us for our next So You Think You Have Talent in the Kuentz Courtyard on Tuesday, April 18 at 11:00. Entertainment will be provided by singer/guitarist Bud Parker.

10. Join us for Happy Hour on Wed., April 26 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Kuentz Courtyard. This event is free and for residents of SCW and their invited guests.  Bring your own beverage and snacks.  Ice and coffee are provided.  Entertainment is provided by “Boomerang and the Sunsations”.

11. Join us for our next Newcomers Coffee this Thursday, April 20 at 9 am at the R. H. Johnson Social Hall. This is an opportunity for new residents to learn more about what the community has to offer and for long-time residents to learn what may have changed.

12. Saturday, April 22 begins our Spring Movies in the Park with “Jackie”. Join us in Beardsley Park at sunset for this free event.

Library:

13. Mary Galego and a library volunteer ran the library’s craft table at the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. Mary reported the whole even was well organized and lot of fun for the families attending.

14. Preparations are underway for this year’s Summer Puzzle which begins on Wednesday, May 3^rd. We are starting a bit earlier this year to ensure there is time to complete the puzzle before the library closes for the Kitchen Remodel Project.

15. Our Summer Reading Club begins early on May 3^rd

Village Store:

16. We will begin interviewing to fill the Village Store Assistant Manager’s position now that Rita has announced she will be retiring.

Environemntal Services:

17. Desert Trails Golf Course reopens tomorrow, Tuesday, April 18 following spring aerification.

18. Trail Ridge Golf Course closes for aerification on Thursday, April 20 and reopen on Tuesday, April 25.

19. Landscape Maintenance will be installing summer flowers Saturday at RH Johnson and Bell Road.

20. The old planter pots at Palm Ridge will be replaced with new ones this week.

21. Water savings at the golf courses has been phenomenal this year. Our water usage for the year was 298 acre feet, averaging 42 acre feet of usage per golf course.  This amounts to 272 less acre feet of water used than last year due to conservation and all the rainfall we received; 4.21” this year, 1.30” last year.

Golf Operations:

22. We are up in revenue and rounds over prior year; $30,000 and 115 rounds. Range revenue is up $60,000 vs. prior year.

23. 40 golfers are signed up to participate in the Michelob Challenge on Saturday April 29.

General Services:

24. Organizers and volunteers are moving forward with phase 2 of the Volunteer Match Program.

25. Diana Starbuck is temporarily working on the SCW Clubs Website until the Volunteer Coordinator who normally works on the Clubs Website returns.

Facility Maintenance:

26. Facility Maintenance personnel are working with ForeSite and removing old electrical lines that are no longer needed.

27. Facility Maintenance did not locate the leak at RHJ indoor spa and will continue to look at other locations to identify where the leak is coming from.

28. Facility Maintenance will begin painting the exterior of the Men’s Club later this week once they are finished working on the Association entry signage. They are currently working signage at Meeker and Grand and then the sign at Deer Valley.

Financial Services:

29. The March Financials are out and have been posted. We are doing well and investments are good.

30. The Member Services Dept. seems to have slowed down a bit.

Human Resources:

31. As we are a point of dispensing training for Maricopa County and public health emergencies, closed POD training has been set up for Apr. 25 from 8 a.m. to Noon for anyone having gone through Open POD Training. This includes CERT Team Members, First Responders, Rec. Center Management and volunteers.

32. ADA Training that took place on 4/11/17 for employees that deal with ADA issues was very well received. Most attendees thought the training was very informational and thanked the presenter and the HR Department for setting it up.

Management:

33. We are continuing the process of auditing chartered clubs’ financials. 84 of the 110 clubs have been audited and closed out.

Every Tue at Kuentz                        SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE TALENT! 11 am at Kuentz Courtyard.  Join us for our sixth season highlighting many new acts and all of your old favorites! Join us in the Kuentz Courtyard starting at 11 a.m. Tuesdays for an hour of fun. Our lineup for January is:

Mon  April 24                                    JAM SESSION,  1-3 pm, Kuentz Courtyard. Join

                                                            us on from 1 to 3 p.m. for two hours of entertainment in the Kuentz Courtyard. Join in or just sit back and relax and enjoy the music. This starts our third season. If you play a string instrument or other similar instruments join in on the fun. We supply sound and chairs for the musicians. This is open to SCW residents and guests. Wed Apr  26                                      KUENTZ HAPPY HOUR, 6-8 pm, Kuentz Courtyard.  The show is free and open to residents and invited guests. BYOB and snacks, coffee and ice will be provided. Also, be sure to bring your own chair. No pets are allowed; service animals only. If there is rain the event will be cancelled.

April 26 6 to 8 p.m.: Drawn together by love for rock ‘n’ roll, Boomerang and The Sunsations.

Thu Apr 20                                        NEWCOMERS COFFEE, 9 am, RH Johnson Social Hall. This is an opportunity for new residents to learn about Sun City West chartered clubs and get acquainted with all the community has to offer. The doors open at 9 a.m. for residents to visit with the clubs and service groups until introduction of staff are made at 9:30 and the PowerPoint presentation to follow. Coffee and pastry will be served. If you have never attended this event and are a current resident and want to reacquaint yourself with all that Sun City West has to offer, please join us.

Sat Apr 22 & 29                                MOVIES IN THE PARK, Sunset, Beardsley Park, This event is free.  Please bring your own chair.  Sodas and Ice Cream will be sold.  April 22 – “Jackie” Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy fights through grief and trauma to regain her faith, console her children, and define her husband’s historic legacy. Starring Natalie Portman. Rated R; drama, biography. April 29 – “FENCES” A working class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life. Denzel Washington directed and stars in this adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which centers on a black garbage collector named Troy Maxson in 1950s Pittsburgh. Bitter that baseball’s color barrier was only broken after his own heyday in the Negro Leagues, Maxson is prone to taking out his frustrations on his loved ones. Both Washington and co-star Viola Davis won Tony’s for their performances in the 2010 revival of the play. Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, and Mykelti Williamson round-out the supporting cast. Starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Rated PG; drama.

Fri Apr 28                                          APRIL DANCE with COME BACK BUDDY, 7 pm, Palm Ridge Recreation Center.  Come Back Buddy is a three-piece rock ‘n’ roll band inspired by the legendary “Buddy Holly and the Crickets.” The trio’s repertoire includes the music of many artists from the ’50s era including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson and, of course, Buddy Holly.  Tickets are $10 per person and on sale at the R.H. Johnson Box Office, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., or online at suncitywest.com. The dance is open to the public. Soda and water will be available for purchase
