The “All Hands on Deck” So Cal Fires Benefit Dance was held at the Palm Ridge Rec Center on Monday, Feb. 24. The Sun City West community turned out to support this special event, which was a great collaboration effort between RCSCW, AFMA Firefighters Charity, the Automotive Restoration Club, The Broadcast Club/103.1 KSCW and the Tennis Club.
ARC members brought about 50 classic cool cars for people to enjoy. AFMA provided their food trailer and grilled hot dogs in the parking lot. In addition several fire trucks staffed by firefighters allowed spectators to view the trucks and learn about their functions and support of the community. The SCW Posse provided traffic control and security for the event.
Broadcast and Tennis club members greeted attendees, collected donations, provided security and assisted people into the Summit Hall for that night’s dance. The night started with a 5-minute video prepared by Barry Johnson of Computers West, recapping the many aspects of the terrible fires. After the video, comments were made by three guest speakers: Stephen Erno, RCSCW General Manager; Matt Licardi, president of AFMA Charities; and Engineer Vince Nielson, who fought fires in Southern California.
Residents danced the rest of the night away to the rockin’ sounds of Still Above Ground Band, who donated their performance, and then all their tips to the benefit. All proceeds from the event are being divided equally between The American Red Cross and Samaratin’s Purse. In the end, the event raised a total of $10,000 for this worthy cause.
