The Recreation Centers of Sun City West is announcing its holiday closure schedule for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. Please keep this list handy throughout the holidays:
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27:
- Closed all day: Administrative Offices, Member Services, Library, Sports Pavilion, Lizard Acres Pub and Golf Operations Office
- Closed at noon: All Recreation Centers
- Open golf courses: Grandview, Echo Mesa, Trail Ridge, Desert Trails
- Closed golf courses: Deer Valley, Pebblebrook and Stardust
Friday, Nov. 28:
- Closed all day: Administrative Offices, Member Services, Library, and Golf Operations Office
- Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Sports Pavilion
- Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Lizard Acres Pub
- Open regular hours: All Recreation Centers
- All Sun City West golf courses are open
Saturday, Nov. 29:
- Open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Library
- Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Sports Pavilion

Members are encouraged to put member credit on their cards before the holidays. There is no expiration on these funds. You can do this in these ways:
- Call or visit Member Services, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays; 623-544-6100
- Visit the express payment window outside Member Services, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays
- Visit any open golf pro shop
- Visit the R.H. Johnson Snack Bar, located in the lobby of the R.H. Johnson Pool
- Pay with a credit card ONLY for 1-day use at any of the monitor stations at the four recreation centers
I am wondering why the enclosed waiting areas at the rec. centers have been locked out recently. We who arrive early to sign in for various cardio equipment can not do so, causing delays c ausing problems on usage time. This causes problems between next user time. Also the waiting area at Beardsley was enclosed to give us a waiting area enclosed from elements. Now we have to stand out in weather until they open doors at 6:00 am.
I have to wonder about the Boards ” Be Kind ” programs are being kind to seniors left out in weather.
Also no one tells us why this was done, letting rumors abound.
WHAT ARE THEY HIDING ?
The RSCW holiday closures listed on this page clearly shows the Sports Pavillion is open today, Jan 1, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, so I grab my que stick and walk on over to play pool but the doors are locked. There is now a sign on the door indicating they will open today from noon to 5:00 PM. I’ll give it another try and walk back at noon but not holding my breath in hopes I’ll be permitted to play today.
